1 τῇ δὲ μιᾷ τῶν σαββάτων ὄρθρου βαθέως ἐπὶ τὸ μνῆμα ἦλθον φέρουσαι ἃ ἡτοίμασαν ἀρώματα.

2 εὖρον δὲ τὸν λίθον ἀποκεκυλισμένον ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου,

3 εἰσελθοῦσαι δὲ οὐχ εὖρον τὸ σῶμα τοῦ κυρίου ἰησοῦ.

4 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ ἀπορεῖσθαι αὐτὰς περὶ τούτου καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνδρες δύο ἐπέστησαν αὐταῖς ἐν ἐσθῆτι ἀστραπτούσῃ.

5 ἐμφόβων δὲ γενομένων αὐτῶν καὶ κλινουσῶν τὰ πρόσωπα εἰς τὴν γῆν εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτάς, τί ζητεῖτε τὸν ζῶντα μετὰ τῶν νεκρῶν;

6 οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε, ἀλλὰ ἠγέρθη. μνήσθητε ὡς ἐλάλησεν ὑμῖν ἔτι ὢν ἐν τῇ γαλιλαίᾳ,

7 λέγων τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὅτι δεῖ παραδοθῆναι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων ἁμαρτωλῶν καὶ σταυρωθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἀναστῆναι.

8 καὶ ἐμνήσθησαν τῶν ῥημάτων αὐτοῦ,

9 καὶ ὑποστρέψασαι ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου ἀπήγγειλαν ταῦτα πάντα τοῖς ἕνδεκα καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς λοιποῖς.

10 ἦσαν δὲ ἡ μαγδαληνὴ μαρία καὶ ἰωάννα καὶ μαρία ἡ ἰακώβου· καὶ αἱ λοιπαὶ σὺν αὐταῖς ἔλεγον πρὸς τοὺς ἀποστόλους ταῦτα.

11 καὶ ἐφάνησαν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λῆρος τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα, καὶ ἠπίστουν αὐταῖς.

12 ὁ δὲ πέτρος ἀναστὰς ἔδραμεν ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον, καὶ παρακύψας βλέπει τὰ ὀθόνια μόνα· καὶ ἀπῆλθεν πρὸς ἑαυτὸν θαυμάζων τὸ γεγονός.

13 καὶ ἰδοὺ δύο ἐξ αὐτῶν ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἦσαν πορευόμενοι εἰς κώμην ἀπέχουσαν σταδίους ἑξήκοντα ἀπὸ ἰερουσαλήμ, ᾗ ὄνομα ἐμμαοῦς,

14 καὶ αὐτοὶ ὡμίλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους περὶ πάντων τῶν συμβεβηκότων τούτων.

15 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ ὁμιλεῖν αὐτοὺς καὶ συζητεῖν καὶ αὐτὸς ἰησοῦς ἐγγίσας συνεπορεύετο αὐτοῖς,

16 οἱ δὲ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν ἐκρατοῦντο τοῦ μὴ ἐπιγνῶναι αὐτόν.

17 εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, τίνες οἱ λόγοι οὖτοι οὓς ἀντιβάλλετε πρὸς ἀλλήλους περιπατοῦντες; καὶ ἐστάθησαν σκυθρωποί.

18 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἷς ὀνόματι κλεοπᾶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν, σὺ μόνος παροικεῖς ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ οὐκ ἔγνως τὰ γενόμενα ἐν αὐτῇ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις;

19 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ποῖα; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῶ, τὰ περὶ ἰησοῦ τοῦ ναζαρηνοῦ, ὃς ἐγένετο ἀνὴρ προφήτης δυνατὸς ἐν ἔργῳ καὶ λόγῳ ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ,

20 ὅπως τε παρέδωκαν αὐτὸν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες ἡμῶν εἰς κρίμα θανάτου καὶ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτόν.

21 ἡμεῖς δὲ ἠλπίζομεν ὅτι αὐτός ἐστιν ὁ μέλλων λυτροῦσθαι τὸν ἰσραήλ· ἀλλά γε καὶ σὺν πᾶσιν τούτοις τρίτην ταύτην ἡμέραν ἄγει ἀφ᾽ οὖ ταῦτα ἐγένετο.

22 ἀλλὰ καὶ γυναῖκές τινες ἐξ ἡμῶν ἐξέστησαν ἡμᾶς· γενόμεναι ὀρθριναὶ ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον

23 καὶ μὴ εὑροῦσαι τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ ἦλθον λέγουσαι καὶ ὀπτασίαν ἀγγέλων ἑωρακέναι, οἳ λέγουσιν αὐτὸν ζῆν.

24 καὶ ἀπῆλθόν τινες τῶν σὺν ἡμῖν ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον, καὶ εὖρον οὕτως καθὼς καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες εἶπον, αὐτὸν δὲ οὐκ εἶδον.

25 καὶ αὐτὸς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, ὦ ἀνόητοι καὶ βραδεῖς τῇ καρδίᾳ τοῦ πιστεύειν ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἷς ἐλάλησαν οἱ προφῆται·

26 οὐχὶ ταῦτα ἔδει παθεῖν τὸν χριστὸν καὶ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ;

27 καὶ ἀρξάμενος ἀπὸ μωϊσέως καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν προφητῶν διερμήνευσεν αὐτοῖς ἐν πάσαις ταῖς γραφαῖς τὰ περὶ ἑαυτοῦ.

28 καὶ ἤγγισαν εἰς τὴν κώμην οὖ ἐπορεύοντο, καὶ αὐτὸς προσεποιήσατο πορρώτερον πορεύεσθαι.

29 καὶ παρεβιάσαντο αὐτὸν λέγοντες, μεῖνον μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν, ὅτι πρὸς ἑσπέραν ἐστὶν καὶ κέκλικεν ἤδη ἡ ἡμέρα. καὶ εἰσῆλθεν τοῦ μεῖναι σὺν αὐτοῖς.

30 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ κατακλιθῆναι αὐτὸν μετ᾽ αὐτῶν λαβὼν τὸν ἄρτον εὐλόγησεν καὶ κλάσας ἐπεδίδου αὐτοῖς·

31 αὐτῶν δὲ διηνοίχθησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ καὶ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτόν· καὶ αὐτὸς ἄφαντος ἐγένετο ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν.

32 καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς ἀλλήλους, οὐχὶ ἡ καρδία ἡμῶν καιομένη ἦν [ἐν ἡμῖν] ὡς ἐλάλει ἡμῖν ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ, ὡς διήνοιγεν ἡμῖν τὰς γραφάς;

33 καὶ ἀναστάντες αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ εὖρον ἠθροισμένους τοὺς ἕνδεκα καὶ τοὺς σὺν αὐτοῖς,

34 λέγοντας ὅτι ὄντως ἠγέρθη ὁ κύριος καὶ ὤφθη σίμωνι.

35 καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐξηγοῦντο τὰ ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ καὶ ὡς ἐγνώσθη αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ κλάσει τοῦ ἄρτου.

36 ταῦτα δὲ αὐτῶν λαλούντων αὐτὸς ἔστη ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, εἰρήνη ὑμῖν.

37 πτοηθέντες δὲ καὶ ἔμφοβοι γενόμενοι ἐδόκουν πνεῦμα θεωρεῖν.

38 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, τί τεταραγμένοι ἐστέ, καὶ διὰ τί διαλογισμοὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν;

39 ἴδετε τὰς χεῖράς μου καὶ τοὺς πόδας μου ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι αὐτός· ψηλαφήσατέ με καὶ ἴδετε, ὅτι πνεῦμα σάρκα καὶ ὀστέα οὐκ ἔχει καθὼς ἐμὲ θεωρεῖτε ἔχοντα.

40 καὶ τοῦτο εἰπὼν ἔδειξεν αὐτοῖς τὰς χεῖρας καὶ τοὺς πόδας.

41 ἔτι δὲ ἀπιστούντων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῆς χαρᾶς καὶ θαυμαζόντων εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ἔχετέ τι βρώσιμον ἐνθάδε;

42 οἱ δὲ ἐπέδωκαν αὐτῶ ἰχθύος ὀπτοῦ μέρος·

43 καὶ λαβὼν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ἔφαγεν.

44 εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, οὖτοι οἱ λόγοι μου οὓς ἐλάλησα πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔτι ὢν σὺν ὑμῖν, ὅτι δεῖ πληρωθῆναι πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῶ νόμῳ μωϊσέως καὶ τοῖς προφήταις καὶ ψαλμοῖς περὶ ἐμοῦ.

45 τότε διήνοιξεν αὐτῶν τὸν νοῦν τοῦ συνιέναι τὰς γραφάς.

46 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι οὕτως γέγραπται παθεῖν τὸν χριστὸν καὶ ἀναστῆναι ἐκ νεκρῶν τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ,

47 καὶ κηρυχθῆναι ἐπὶ τῶ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ μετάνοιαν εἰς ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν εἰς πάντα τὰ ἔθνη _ ἀρξάμενοι ἀπὸ ἰερουσαλήμ·

48 ὑμεῖς μάρτυρες τούτων.

49 καὶ [ἰδοὺ] ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ πατρός μου ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς· ὑμεῖς δὲ καθίσατε ἐν τῇ πόλει ἕως οὖ ἐνδύσησθε ἐξ ὕψους δύναμιν.

50 ἐξήγαγεν δὲ αὐτοὺς [ἔξω] ἕως πρὸς βηθανίαν, καὶ ἐπάρας τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ εὐλόγησεν αὐτούς.

51 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ εὐλογεῖν αὐτὸν αὐτοὺς διέστη ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν καὶ ἀνεφέρετο εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν.

52 καὶ αὐτοὶ προσκυνήσαντες αὐτὸν ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς ἰερουσαλὴμ μετὰ χαρᾶς μεγάλης,

53 καὶ ἦσαν διὰ παντὸς ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ εὐλογοῦντες τὸν θεόν.

1  Now¹¹⁶¹ upon the³⁵⁸⁸ first³³⁹¹ day of the³⁵⁸⁸ week,⁴⁵²¹ very early in the morning,^{901 3722} they came²⁰⁶⁴ unto¹⁹⁰⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ sepulcher,³⁴¹⁸ bringing⁵³⁴² the spices⁷⁵⁹ which³⁷³⁹ they had prepared,²⁰⁹⁰ and²⁵³² certain⁵¹⁰⁰ others with⁴⁸⁶² them.⁸⁴⁶

2  And¹¹⁶¹ they found²¹⁴⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ stone³⁰³⁷ rolled away⁶¹⁷ from⁵⁷⁵ the³⁵⁸⁸ sepulcher.³⁴¹⁹

3  And²⁵³² they entered in,¹⁵²⁵ and found²¹⁴⁷ not³⁷⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ body⁴⁹⁸³ of the³⁵⁸⁸ Lord²⁹⁶² Jesus.²⁴²⁴

4  And²⁵³² it came to pass,¹⁰⁹⁶ as they⁸⁴⁶ were much perplexed¹²⁸⁰ thereabout,^{4012 5127 2532} behold,²⁴⁰⁰ two¹⁴¹⁷ men⁴³⁵ stood by²¹⁸⁶ them⁸⁴⁶ in¹⁷²² shining⁷⁹⁷ garments:²⁰⁶⁷

5  And¹¹⁶¹ as they⁸⁴⁶ were¹⁰⁹⁶ afraid,¹⁷¹⁹ and²⁵³² bowed down²⁸²⁷ their faces⁴³⁸³ to¹⁵¹⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ earth,¹⁰⁹³ they said²⁰³⁶ unto⁴³¹⁴ them,⁸⁴⁶ Why⁵¹⁰¹ seek²²¹² ye the³⁵⁸⁸ living²¹⁹⁸ among³³²⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ dead?³⁴⁹⁸

6  He is²⁰⁷⁶ not³⁷⁵⁶ here,⁵⁶⁰² but²³⁵ is risen:¹⁴⁵³ remember³⁴¹⁵ how⁵⁶¹³ he spake²⁹⁸⁰ unto you⁵²¹³ when he was⁵⁶⁰⁷ yet²⁰⁸⁹ in¹⁷²² Galilee,¹⁰⁵⁶

7  Saying,³⁰⁰⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ Son⁵²⁰⁷ of man⁴⁴⁴ must¹¹⁶³ be delivered³⁸⁶⁰ into¹⁵¹⁹ the hands⁵⁴⁹⁵ of sinful²⁶⁸ men,⁴³⁵ and²⁵³² be crucified,⁴⁷¹⁷ and²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ third⁵¹⁵⁴ day²²⁵⁰ rise again.⁴⁵⁰

8  And²⁵³² they remembered³⁴¹⁵ his⁸⁴⁶ words,⁴⁴⁸⁷

9  And²⁵³² returned⁵²⁹⁰ from⁵⁷⁵ the³⁵⁸⁸ sepulcher,³⁴¹⁹ and told⁵¹⁸ all³⁹⁵⁶ these things⁵⁰²³ unto the³⁵⁸⁸ eleven,¹⁷³³ and²⁵³² to all³⁹⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ rest.³⁰⁶²

10  ¹¹⁶¹ It was²²⁵⁸ Mary³¹³⁷ Magdalene³⁰⁹⁴ and²⁵³² Joanna,²⁴⁸⁹ and²⁵³² Mary³¹³⁷ the mother of James,²³⁸⁵ and²⁵³² other³⁰⁶² women that were with⁴⁸⁶² them,⁸⁴⁶ which³⁷³⁹ told³⁰⁰⁴ these things⁵⁰²³ unto⁴³¹⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ apostles.⁶⁵²

11  And²⁵³² their⁸⁴⁶ words⁴⁴⁸⁷ seemed⁵³¹⁶ to¹⁷⁹⁹ them⁸⁴⁶ as⁵⁶¹⁶ idle tales,³⁰²⁶ and²⁵³² they believed them not.^{569 846}

12  Then¹¹⁶¹ arose⁴⁵⁰ Peter,⁴⁰⁷⁴ and ran⁵¹⁴³ unto¹⁹⁰⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ sepulcher;³⁴¹⁹ and²⁵³² stooping down,³⁸⁷⁹ he beheld⁹⁹¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ linen clothes³⁶⁰⁸ laid²⁷⁴⁹ by themselves,³⁴⁴¹ and²⁵³² departed,⁵⁶⁵ wondering²²⁹⁶ in⁴³¹⁴ himself¹⁴³⁸ at that which was come to pass.¹⁰⁹⁶

13  And,²⁵³² behold,²⁴⁰⁰ two¹⁴¹⁷ of¹⁵³⁷ them⁸⁴⁶ went^{2258 4198} that same⁸⁴⁶ day²²⁵⁰ to¹⁵¹⁹ a village²⁹⁶⁸ called³⁶⁸⁶ Emmaus,¹⁶⁹⁵ which was⁵⁶⁸ from⁵⁷⁵ Jerusalem²⁴¹⁹ about threescore¹⁸³⁵ furlongs.⁴⁷¹²

14  And²⁵³² they⁸⁴⁶ talked³⁶⁵⁶ together^{4314 240} of⁴⁰¹² all³⁹⁵⁶ these things⁵¹³⁰ which had happened.⁴⁸¹⁹

15  And²⁵³² it came to pass,¹⁰⁹⁶ that, while they⁸⁴⁶ communed³⁶⁵⁶ together and²⁵³² reasoned,^{4802 2532} Jesus²⁴²⁴ himself⁸⁴⁶ drew near,¹⁴⁴⁸ and went with⁴⁸⁴⁸ them.⁸⁴⁶

16  But¹¹⁶¹ their⁸⁴⁶ eyes³⁷⁸⁸ were holden²⁹⁰² that they should not³³⁶¹ know¹⁹²¹ him.⁸⁴⁶

17  And¹¹⁶¹ he said²⁰³⁶ unto⁴³¹⁴ them,⁸⁴⁶ What manner⁵¹⁰¹ of communications³⁰⁵⁶ are these³⁷⁷⁸ that³⁷³⁹ ye have⁴⁷⁴ one to another,^{240 4314} as ye walk,⁴⁰⁴³ and²⁵³² are²⁰⁷⁵ sad?⁴⁶⁵⁹

18  And¹¹⁶¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ one¹⁵²⁰ of them, whose³⁷³⁹ name³⁶⁸⁶ was Cleopas,²⁸¹⁰ answering⁶¹¹ said²⁰³⁶ unto⁴³¹⁴ him,⁸⁴⁶ Art thou only a stranger^{3939 4771 3441} in¹⁷²² Jerusalem,²⁴¹⁹ and²⁵³² hast not³⁷⁵⁶ known¹⁰⁹⁷ the things which are come to pass¹⁰⁹⁶ there⁸⁴⁶ in¹⁷²² these⁵⁰²⁵ days?²²⁵⁰

19  And²⁵³² he said²⁰³⁶ unto them,⁸⁴⁶ What things?⁴¹⁶⁹ And¹¹⁶¹ they³⁵⁸⁸ said²⁰³⁶ unto him,⁸⁴⁶ Concerning⁴⁰¹² Jesus²⁴²⁴ of Nazareth,³⁴⁸⁰ which³⁷³⁹ was¹⁰⁹⁶ a⁴³⁵ prophet⁴³⁹⁶ mighty¹⁴¹⁵ in¹⁷²² deed²⁰⁴¹ and²⁵³² word³⁰⁵⁶ before¹⁷²⁶ God²³¹⁶ and²⁵³² all³⁹⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ people:²⁹⁹²

20  And⁵⁰³⁷ how³⁷⁰⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ chief priests⁷⁴⁹ and²⁵³² our²²⁵⁷ rulers⁷⁵⁸ delivered³⁸⁶⁰ him⁸⁴⁶ to¹⁵¹⁹ be condemned²⁹¹⁷ to death,²²⁸⁸ and²⁵³² have crucified⁴⁷¹⁷ him.⁸⁴⁶

21  But¹¹⁶¹ we²²⁴⁹ trusted¹⁶⁷⁹ that³⁷⁵⁴ it had been²⁰⁷⁶ he⁸⁴⁶ which should³¹⁹⁵ have redeemed³⁰⁸⁴ Israel:²⁴⁷⁴ and^{1065 235} beside⁴⁸⁶² all³⁹⁵⁶ this,⁵¹²⁵ today⁴⁵⁹⁴ is⁷¹ the⁵⁰²⁶ third⁵¹⁵⁴ day²²⁵⁰ since^{575 3739} these things⁵⁰²³ were done.¹⁰⁹⁶

22  Yea, and²³⁵ certain⁵¹⁰⁰ women¹¹³⁵ also²⁵³² of¹⁵³⁷ our company²²⁵⁷ made us astonished,^{1839 2248} which were¹⁰⁹⁶ early³⁷²¹ at¹⁹⁰⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ sepulcher;³⁴¹⁹

23  And²⁵³² when they found²¹⁴⁷ not³³⁶¹ his⁸⁴⁶ body,⁴⁹⁸³ they came,²⁰⁶⁴ saying,³⁰⁰⁴ that they had also²⁵³² seen³⁷⁰⁸ a vision³⁷⁰¹ of angels,³² which³⁷³⁹ said³⁰⁰⁴ that he⁸⁴⁶ was alive.²¹⁹⁸

24  And²⁵³² certain⁵¹⁰⁰ of them³⁵⁸⁸ which were with⁴⁸⁶² us²²⁵⁴ went⁵⁶⁵ to¹⁹⁰⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ sepulcher,³⁴¹⁹ and²⁵³² found²¹⁴⁷ it even²⁵³² so³⁷⁷⁹ as²⁵³¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ women¹¹³⁵ had said:²⁰³⁶ but¹¹⁶¹ him⁸⁴⁶ they saw¹⁴⁹² not.³⁷⁵⁶

25  Then²⁵³² he⁸⁴⁶ said²⁰³⁶ unto⁴³¹⁴ them,⁸⁴⁶ O⁵⁵⁹⁹ fools,⁴⁵³ and²⁵³² slow¹⁰²¹ of heart²⁵⁸⁸ to believe⁴¹⁰⁰ all³⁹⁵⁶ that³⁷³⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ prophets⁴³⁹⁶ have spoken:²⁹⁸⁰

26  Ought¹¹⁶³ not³⁷⁸⁰ Christ⁵⁵⁴⁷ to have suffered³⁹⁵⁸ these things,⁵⁰²³ and²⁵³² to enter¹⁵²⁵ into¹⁵¹⁹ his⁸⁴⁸ glory?¹³⁹¹

27  And²⁵³² beginning⁷⁵⁶ at⁵⁷⁵ Moses³⁴⁷⁵ and²⁵³² all³⁹⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ prophets,⁴³⁹⁶ he expounded¹³²⁹ unto them⁸⁴⁶ in¹⁷²² all³⁹⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ Scriptures¹¹²⁴ the things³⁵⁸⁸ concerning⁴⁰¹² himself.¹⁴³⁸

28  And²⁵³² they drew nigh¹⁴⁴⁸ unto¹⁵¹⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ village,²⁹⁶⁸ whither³⁷⁵⁷ they went:⁴¹⁹⁸ and²⁵³² he⁸⁴⁶ made as though⁴³⁶⁴ he would have gone⁴¹⁹⁸ further.⁴²⁰⁸

29  But²⁵³² they constrained³⁸⁴⁹ him,⁸⁴⁶ saying,³⁰⁰⁴ Abide³³⁰⁶ with³³²⁶ us:²²⁵⁷ for³⁷⁵⁴ it is²⁰⁷⁶ toward⁴³¹⁴ evening,²⁰⁷³ and²⁵³² the³⁵⁸⁸ day²²⁵⁰ is far spent.²⁸²⁷ And²⁵³² he went in¹⁵²⁵ to tarry³³⁰⁶ with⁴⁸⁶² them.⁸⁴⁶

30  And²⁵³² it came to pass,¹⁰⁹⁶ as he⁸⁴⁶ sat at meat²⁶²⁵ with³³²⁶ them,⁸⁴⁶ he took²⁹⁸³ bread,⁷⁴⁰ and blessed²¹²⁷ it, and²⁵³² broke,²⁸⁰⁶ and gave¹⁹²⁹ to them.⁸⁴⁶

31  And¹¹⁶¹ their⁸⁴⁶ eyes³⁷⁸⁸ were opened,¹²⁷² and²⁵³² they knew¹⁹²¹ him;⁸⁴⁶ and²⁵³² he⁸⁴⁶ vanished^{1096 855} out of their sight.^{575 846}

32  And²⁵³² they said²⁰³⁶ one to another,^{240 4314} Did not³⁷⁸⁰ our²²⁵⁷ heart²⁵⁸⁸ burn^{2258 2545} within¹⁷²² us,²²⁵⁴ while⁵⁶¹³ he talked²⁹⁸⁰ with us²²⁵⁴ by¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ way,³⁵⁹⁸ and²⁵³² while⁵⁶¹³ he opened¹²⁷² to us²²⁵⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ Scriptures?¹¹²⁴

33  And²⁵³² they rose up⁴⁵⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ same⁸⁴⁶ hour,⁵⁶¹⁰ and returned⁵²⁹⁰ to¹⁵¹⁹ Jerusalem,²⁴¹⁹ and²⁵³² found²¹⁴⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ eleven¹⁷³³ gathered together,⁴⁸⁶⁷ and²⁵³² them³⁵⁸⁸ that were with⁴⁸⁶² them,⁸⁴⁶

34  Saying,³⁰⁰⁴ The³⁵⁸⁸ Lord²⁹⁶² is risen¹⁴⁵³ indeed,³⁶⁸⁹ and²⁵³² hath appeared³⁷⁰⁰ to Simon.⁴⁶¹³

35  And²⁵³² they⁸⁴⁶ told¹⁸³⁴ what things³⁵⁸⁸ were done in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ way,³⁵⁹⁸ and²⁵³² how⁵⁶¹³ he was known¹⁰⁹⁷ of them⁸⁴⁶ in¹⁷²² breaking²⁸⁰⁰ of bread.⁷⁴⁰

36  And¹¹⁶¹ as they⁸⁴⁶ thus⁵⁰²³ spake,²⁹⁸⁰ Jesus²⁴²⁴ himself⁸⁴⁶ stood²⁴⁷⁶ in¹⁷²² the midst³³¹⁹ of them,⁸⁴⁶ and²⁵³² saith³⁰⁰⁴ unto them,⁸⁴⁶ Peace¹⁵¹⁵ be unto you.⁵²¹³

37  But¹¹⁶¹ they were terrified⁴⁴²² and²⁵³² affrighted,^{1096 1719} and supposed¹³⁸⁰ that they had seen²³³⁴ a spirit.⁴¹⁵¹

38  And²⁵³² he said²⁰³⁶ unto them,⁸⁴⁶ Why⁵¹⁰¹ are²⁰⁷⁵ ye troubled?⁵⁰¹⁵ and²⁵³² why¹³⁰² do thoughts¹²⁶¹ arise³⁰⁵ in¹⁷²² your⁵²¹⁶ hearts?²⁵⁸⁸

39  Behold¹⁴⁹² my³⁴⁵⁰ hands⁵⁴⁹⁵ and²⁵³² my³⁴⁵⁰ feet,⁴²²⁸ that³⁷⁵⁴ it is¹⁵¹⁰ I¹⁴⁷³ myself:⁸⁴⁶ handle⁵⁵⁸⁴ me,³¹⁶⁵ and²⁵³² see;¹⁴⁹² for³⁷⁵⁴ a spirit⁴¹⁵¹ hath²¹⁹² not³⁷⁵⁶ flesh⁴⁵⁶¹ and²⁵³² bones,³⁷⁴⁷ as²⁵³¹ ye see²³³⁴ me¹⁶⁹¹ have.²¹⁹²

40  And²⁵³² when he had thus⁵¹²⁴ spoken,²⁰³⁶ he showed¹⁹²⁵ them⁸⁴⁶ his hands⁵⁴⁹⁵ and²⁵³² his feet.⁴²²⁸

41  And¹¹⁶¹ while they⁸⁴⁶ yet²⁰⁸⁹ believed not⁵⁶⁹ for⁵⁷⁵ joy,⁵⁴⁷⁹ and²⁵³² wondered,²²⁹⁶ he said²⁰³⁶ unto them,⁸⁴⁶ Have²¹⁹² ye here¹⁷⁵⁹ any⁵¹⁰⁰ meat?¹⁰³⁴

42  And¹¹⁶¹ they³⁵⁸⁸ gave¹⁹²⁹ him⁸⁴⁶ a piece³³¹³ of a broiled³⁷⁰² fish,²⁴⁸⁶ and²⁵³² of⁵⁷⁵ a honeycomb.^{3193 2781}

43  And²⁵³² he took²⁹⁸³ it, and did eat⁵³¹⁵ before¹⁷⁹⁹ them.⁸⁴⁶

44  And¹¹⁶¹ he said²⁰³⁶ unto them,⁸⁴⁶ These³⁷⁷⁸ are the³⁵⁸⁸ words³⁰⁵⁶ which³⁷³⁹ I spake²⁹⁸⁰ unto⁴³¹⁴ you,⁵²⁰⁹ while I was⁵⁶⁰⁷ yet²⁰⁸⁹ with⁴⁸⁶² you,⁵²¹³ that³⁷⁵⁴ all things³⁹⁵⁶ must¹¹⁶³ be fulfilled,⁴¹³⁷ which were written¹¹²⁵ in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ law³⁵⁵¹ of Moses,³⁴⁷⁵ and²⁵³² in the prophets,⁴³⁹⁶ and²⁵³² in the psalms,⁵⁵⁶⁸ concerning⁴⁰¹² me.¹⁷⁰⁰

45  Then⁵¹¹⁹ opened¹²⁷² he their⁸⁴⁶ understanding,³⁵⁶³ that they might understand⁴⁹²⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ Scriptures,¹¹²⁴

46  And²⁵³² said²⁰³⁶ unto them,⁸⁴⁶ Thus³⁷⁷⁹ it is written,¹¹²⁵ and²⁵³² thus³⁷⁷⁹ it behooved¹¹⁶³ Christ⁵⁵⁴⁷ to suffer,³⁹⁵⁸ and²⁵³² to rise⁴⁵⁰ from¹⁵³⁷ the dead³⁴⁹⁸ the³⁵⁸⁸ third⁵¹⁵⁴ day:²²⁵⁰

47  And²⁵³² that repentance³³⁴¹ and²⁵³² remission⁸⁵⁹ of sins²⁶⁶ should be preached²⁷⁸⁴ in¹⁹⁰⁹ his⁸⁴⁶ name³⁶⁸⁶ among¹⁵¹⁹ all³⁹⁵⁶ nations,¹⁴⁸⁴ beginning⁷⁵⁶ at⁵⁷⁵ Jerusalem.²⁴¹⁹

48  And¹¹⁶¹ ye⁵²¹⁰ are²⁰⁷⁵ witnesses³¹⁴⁴ of these things.⁵¹³⁰

49  And,²⁵³² behold,²⁴⁰⁰ I¹⁴⁷³ send⁶⁴⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ promise¹⁸⁶⁰ of my³⁴⁵⁰ Father³⁹⁶² upon¹⁹⁰⁹ you:⁵²⁰⁹ but¹¹⁶¹ tarry²⁵²³ ye⁵²¹⁰ in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ city⁴¹⁷² of Jerusalem,²⁴¹⁹ until^{2193 3757} ye be endued¹⁷⁴⁶ with power¹⁴¹¹ from¹⁵³⁷ on high.⁵³¹¹

50  And¹¹⁶¹ he led¹⁸⁰⁶ them⁸⁴⁶ out¹⁸⁵⁴ as far as²¹⁹³ to¹⁵¹⁹ Bethany,⁹⁶³ and²⁵³² he lifted up¹⁸⁶⁹ his⁸⁴⁸ hands,⁵⁴⁹⁵ and blessed²¹²⁷ them.⁸⁴⁶

51  And²⁵³² it came to pass,¹⁰⁹⁶ while he⁸⁴⁶ blessed²¹²⁷ them,⁸⁴⁶ he was parted¹³³⁹ from⁵⁷⁵ them,⁸⁴⁶ and²⁵³² carried up³⁹⁹ into¹⁵¹⁹ heaven.³⁷⁷²

52  And²⁵³² they⁸⁴⁶ worshiped⁴³⁵² him,⁸⁴⁶ and returned⁵²⁹⁰ to¹⁵¹⁹ Jerusalem²⁴¹⁹ with³³²⁶ great³¹⁷³ joy:⁵⁴⁷⁹

53  And²⁵³² were²²⁵⁸ continually¹²⁷⁵ in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ temple,²⁴¹¹ praising¹³⁴ and²⁵³² blessing²¹²⁷ God.²³¹⁶ Amen.²⁸¹

2 et invenerunt lapidem revolutum a monumento.

3 Et ingressæ non invenerunt corpus Domini Jesu.

4 Et factum est, dum mente consternatæ essent de isto, ecce duo viri steterunt secus illas in veste fulgenti.

5 Cum timerent autem, et declinarent vultum in terram, dixerunt ad illas: Quid quæritis viventem cum mortuis?

6 non est hic, sed surrexit: recordamini qualiter locutus est vobis, cum adhuc in Galilæa esset,

7 dicens: Quia oportet Filium hominis tradi in manus hominum peccatorum, et crucifigi, et die tertia resurgere.

8 Et recordatæ sunt verborum ejus.

9 Et regressæ a monumento nuntiaverunt hæc omnia illis undecim, et ceteris omnibus.

10 Erat autem Maria Magdalene, et Joanna, et Maria Jacobi, et ceteræ quæ cum eis erant, quæ dicebant ad apostolos hæc.

11 Et visa sunt ante illos sicut deliramentum verba ista, et non crediderunt illis.

12 Petrus autem surgens cucurrit ad monumentum: et procumbens vidit linteamina sola posita, et abiit secum mirans quod factum fuerat.

13 Et ecce duo ex illis ibant ipsa die in castellum, quod erat in spatio stadiorum sexaginta ab Jerusalem, nomine Emmaus.

14 Et ipsi loquebantur ad invicem de his omnibus quæ acciderant.

15 Et factum est, dum fabularentur, et secum quærerent: et ipse Jesus appropinquans ibat cum illis:

16 oculi autem illorum tenebantur ne eum agnoscerent.

17 Et ait ad illos: Qui sunt hi sermones, quos confertis ad invicem ambulantes, et estis tristes?

18 Et respondens unus, cui nomen Cleophas, dixit ei: Tu solus peregrinus es in Jerusalem, et non cognovisti quæ facta sunt in illa his diebus?

19 Quibus ille dixit: Quæ? Et dixerunt: De Jesu Nazareno, qui fuit vir propheta, potens in opere et sermone coram Deo et omni populo:

20 et quomodo eum tradiderunt summi sacerdotes et principes nostri in damnationem mortis, et crucifixerunt eum:

21 nos autem sperabamus quia ipse esset redempturus Israël: et nunc super hæc omnia, tertia dies est hodie quod hæc facta sunt.

22 Sed et mulieres quædam ex nostris terruerunt nos, quæ ante lucem fuerunt ad monumentum,

23 et non invento corpore ejus, venerunt, dicentes se etiam visionem angelorum vidisse, qui dicunt eum vivere.

24 Et abierunt quidam ex nostris ad monumentum: et ita invenerunt sicut mulieres dixerunt, ipsum vero non invenerunt.

25 Et ipse dixit ad eos: O stulti, et tardi corde ad credendum in omnibus quæ locuti sunt prophetæ!

26 Nonne hæc oportuit pati Christum, et ita intrare in gloriam suam?

27 Et incipiens a Moyse, et omnibus prophetis, interpretabatur illis in omnibus scripturis quæ de ipso erant.

28 Et appropinquaverunt castello quo ibant: et ipse se finxit longius ire.

29 Et coëgerunt illum, dicentes: Mane nobiscum, quoniam advesperascit, et inclinata est jam dies. Et intravit cum illis.

30 Et factum est, dum recumberet cum eis, accepit panem, et benedixit, ac fregit, et porrigebat illis.

31 Et aperti sunt oculi eorum, et cognoverunt eum: et ipse evanuit ex oculis eorum.

32 Et dixerunt ad invicem: Nonne cor nostrum ardens erat in nobis dum loqueretur in via, et aperiret nobis Scripturas?

33 Et surgentes eadem hora regressi sunt in Jerusalem: et invenerunt congregatos undecim, et eos qui cum illis erant,

34 dicentes: Quod surrexit Dominus vere, et apparuit Simoni.

35 Et ipsi narrabant quæ gesta erant in via, et quomodo cognoverunt eum in fractione panis.

36 Dum autem hæc loquuntur, stetit Jesus in medio eorum, et dicit eis: Pax vobis: ego sum, nolite timere.

37 Conturbati vero et conterriti, existimabant se spiritum videre.

38 Et dixit eis: Quid turbati estis, et cogitationes ascendunt in corda vestra?

39 videte manus meas, et pedes, quia ego ipse sum; palpate et videte, quia spiritus carnem et ossa non habet, sicut me videtis habere.

40 Et cum hoc dixisset, ostendit eis manus et pedes.

41 Adhuc autem illis non credentibus, et mirantibus præ gaudio, dixit: Habetis hic aliquid quod manducetur?

42 At illi obtulerunt ei partem piscis assi et favum mellis.

43 Et cum manducasset coram eis, sumens reliquias dedit eis.

44 Et dixit ad eos: Hæc sunt verba quæ locutus sum ad vos cum adhuc essem vobiscum, quoniam necesse est impleri omnia quæ scripta sunt in lege Moysi, et prophetis, et Psalmis de me.

45 Tunc aperuit illis sensum ut intelligerent Scripturas,

46 et dixit eis: Quoniam sic scriptum est, et sic oportebat Christum pati, et resurgere a mortuis tertia die:

47 et prædicari in nomine ejus pœnitentiam, et remissionem peccatorum in omnes gentes, incipientibus ab Jerosolyma.

48 Vos autem testes estis horum.

49 Et ego mitto promissum Patris mei in vos; vos autem sedete in civitate, quoadusque induamini virtute ex alto.

50 Eduxit autem eos foras in Bethaniam, et elevatis manibus suis benedixit eis.

51 Et factum est, dum benediceret illis, recessit ab eis, et ferebatur in cælum.

52 Et ipsi adorantes regressi sunt in Jerusalem cum gaudio magno:

53 et erant semper in templo, laudantes et benedicentes Deum. Amen.
