Chapter XVII.—Constantine’s Victory.

But as soon as he perceived that his adversaries persisted in their resolution, and were already drawing their swords, he gave free scope to his indignation, and by a single charge 3177 overthrew in a moment the entire body of the enemy, thus triumphing at once over them and their gods.

“With one shout and charge.” This does not agree with the account of the final struggle by which Licinius came into Constantine’s power, as generally given, and lends some probability to the view that after he had been captured he again revolted.
