Romans 3

1 τί οὗν τὸ περισσὸν τοῦ ἰουδαίου, ἢ τίς ἡ ὠφέλεια τῆς περιτομῆς;

2 πολὺ κατὰ πάντα τρόπον. πρῶτον μὲν [γὰρ] ὅτι ἐπιστεύθησαν τὰ λόγια τοῦ θεοῦ.

3 τί γὰρ εἰ ἠπίστησάν τινες; μὴ ἡ ἀπιστία αὐτῶν τὴν πίστιν τοῦ θεοῦ καταργήσει;

4 μὴ γένοιτο· γινέσθω δὲ ὁ θεὸς ἀληθής, πᾶς δὲ ἄνθρωπος ψεύστης, καθὼς γέγραπται, ὅπως ἂν δικαιωθῇς ἐν τοῖς λόγοις σου καὶ νικήσεις ἐν τῶ κρίνεσθαί σε.

5 εἰ δὲ ἡ ἀδικία ἡμῶν θεοῦ δικαιοσύνην συνίστησιν, τί ἐροῦμεν; μὴ ἄδικος ὁ θεὸς ὁ ἐπιφέρων τὴν ὀργήν; κατὰ ἄνθρωπον λέγω.

6 μὴ γένοιτο· ἐπεὶ πῶς κρινεῖ ὁ θεὸς τὸν κόσμον;

7 εἰ δὲ ἡ ἀλήθεια τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν τῶ ἐμῶ ψεύσματι ἐπερίσσευσεν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ, τί ἔτι κἀγὼ ὡς ἁμαρτωλὸς κρίνομαι;

8 καὶ μὴ καθὼς βλασφημούμεθα καὶ καθώς φασίν τινες ἡμᾶς λέγειν ὅτι ποιήσωμεν τὰ κακὰ ἵνα ἔλθῃ τὰ ἀγαθά; ὧν τὸ κρίμα ἔνδικόν ἐστιν.

9 τί οὗν; προεχόμεθα; οὐ πάντως, προῃτιασάμεθα γὰρ ἰουδαίους τε καὶ ἕλληνας πάντας ὑφ᾽ ἁμαρτίαν εἶναι,

10 καθὼς γέγραπται ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν δίκαιος οὐδὲ εἷς,

11 οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ συνίων, οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ ἐκζητῶν τὸν θεόν.

12 πάντες ἐξέκλιναν, ἅμα ἠχρεώθησαν· οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ ποιῶν χρηστότητα, [οὐκ ἔστιν] ἕως ἑνός.

13 τάφος ἀνεῳγμένος ὁ λάρυγξ αὐτῶν, ταῖς γλώσσαις αὐτῶν ἐδολιοῦσαν, ἰὸς ἀσπίδων ὑπὸ τὰ χείλη αὐτῶν,

14 ὧν τὸ στόμα ἀρᾶς καὶ πικρίας γέμει·

15 ὀξεῖς οἱ πόδες αὐτῶν ἐκχέαι αἷμα,

16 σύντριμμα καὶ ταλαιπωρία ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτῶν,

17 καὶ ὁδὸν εἰρήνης οὐκ ἔγνωσαν.

18 οὐκ ἔστιν φόβος θεοῦ ἀπέναντι τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτῶν.

19 οἴδαμεν δὲ ὅτι ὅσα ὁ νόμος λέγει τοῖς ἐν τῶ νόμῳ λαλεῖ, ἵνα πᾶν στόμα φραγῇ καὶ ὑπόδικος γένηται πᾶς ὁ κόσμος τῶ θεῶ·

20 διότι ἐξ ἔργων νόμου οὐ δικαιωθήσεται πᾶσα σὰρξ ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ, διὰ γὰρ νόμου ἐπίγνωσις ἁμαρτίας.

21 νυνὶ δὲ χωρὶς νόμου δικαιοσύνη θεοῦ πεφανέρωται, μαρτυρουμένη ὑπὸ τοῦ νόμου καὶ τῶν προφητῶν,

22 δικαιοσύνη δὲ θεοῦ διὰ πίστεως ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ, εἰς πάντας τοὺς πιστεύοντας· οὐ γάρ ἐστιν διαστολή·

23 πάντες γὰρ ἥμαρτον καὶ ὑστεροῦνται τῆς δόξης τοῦ θεοῦ,

24 δικαιούμενοι δωρεὰν τῇ αὐτοῦ χάριτι διὰ τῆς ἀπολυτρώσεως τῆς ἐν χριστῶ ἰησοῦ·

25 ὃν προέθετο ὁ θεὸς ἱλαστήριον διὰ [τῆς] πίστεως ἐν τῶ αὐτοῦ αἵματι εἰς ἔνδειξιν τῆς δικαιοσύνης αὐτοῦ διὰ τὴν πάρεσιν τῶν προγεγονότων ἁμαρτημάτων

26 ἐν τῇ ἀνοχῇ τοῦ θεοῦ, πρὸς τὴν ἔνδειξιν τῆς δικαιοσύνης αὐτοῦ ἐν τῶ νῦν καιρῶ, εἰς τὸ εἶναι αὐτὸν δίκαιον καὶ δικαιοῦντα τὸν ἐκ πίστεως ἰησοῦ.

27 ποῦ οὗν ἡ καύχησις; ἐξεκλείσθη. διὰ ποίου νόμου; τῶν ἔργων; οὐχί, ἀλλὰ διὰ νόμου πίστεως.

28 λογιζόμεθα γὰρ δικαιοῦσθαι πίστει ἄνθρωπον χωρὶς ἔργων νόμου.

29 ἢ ἰουδαίων ὁ θεὸς μόνον; οὐχὶ καὶ ἐθνῶν; ναὶ καὶ ἐθνῶν,

30 εἴπερ εἷς ὁ θεός, ὃς δικαιώσει περιτομὴν ἐκ πίστεως καὶ ἀκροβυστίαν διὰ τῆς πίστεως.

31 νόμον οὗν καταργοῦμεν διὰ τῆς πίστεως; μὴ γένοιτο, ἀλλὰ νόμον ἱστάνομεν.

6  God forbid:1096 3361 for then1893 how4459 shall God2316 judge2919 the3588 world?2889

7  For1063 if1487 the3588 truth225 of God2316 hath more abounded4052 through1722 my1699 lie5582 unto1519 his848 glory;1391 why5101 yet2089 am I also2504 judged2919 as5613 a sinner?268

8  And2532 not3361 rather, (as2531 we be slanderously reported,987 and2532 as2531 some5100 affirm5346 that we2248 say,) Let us3004 do4160 evil,2556 that2443 good18 may come?2064 whose3739 damnation2917 is2076 just.1738

22  Even1161 the righteousness1343 of God2316 which is by1223 faith4102 of Jesus2424 Christ5547 unto1519 all3956 and2532 upon1909 all3956 them that believe:4100 for1063 there is2076 no3756 difference:1293

23  For1063 all3956 have sinned,264 and2532 come short5302 of the3588 glory1391 of God;2316

24  Being justified1344 freely1432 by his848 grace5485 through1223 the3588 redemption629 that3588 is in1722 Christ5547 Jesus:2424

25  Whom3739 God2316 hath set forth4388 to be a propitiation2435 through1223 faith4102 in1722 his848 blood,129 to declare1519 1732 his848 righteousness1343 for1223 the3588 remission3929 of sins265 that are past,4266 through1722 the3588 forbearance463 of God;2316

26  To4314 declare,1732 I say, at1722 this3568 time2540 his846 righteousness:1343 that he846 might be1511 just,1342 and2532 the justifier1344 of him3588 which believeth1537 4102 in Jesus.2424

27  Where4226 is boasting2746 then?3767 It is excluded.1576 By1223 what4169 law?3551 of works?2041 Nay:3780 but235 by1223 the law3551 of faith.4102

28  Therefore3767 we conclude3049 that a man444 is justified1344 by faith4102 without5565 the deeds2041 of the law.3551

29  Is he2228 the3588 God2316 of the Jews2453 only?3440 is he1161 not3780 also2532 of the Gentiles?1484 Yes,3483 of the Gentiles1484 also:2532

30  Seeing1897 it is one1520 God,2316 which3739 shall justify1344 the circumcision4061 by1537 faith,4102 and2532 uncircumcision203 through1223 faith.4102

1 Quid ergo amplius Judæo est? aut quæ utilitas circumcisionis?

2 Multum per omnem modum. Primum quidem quia credita sunt illis eloquia Dei.

3 Quid enim si quidam illorum non crediderunt? numquid incredulitas illorum fidem Dei evacuabit? Absit.

4 Est autem Deus verax: omnis autem homo mendax, sicut scriptum est: [Ut justificeris in sermonibus tuis:
et vincas cum judicaris.]

5 Si autem iniquitas nostra justitiam Dei commendat, quid dicemus? Numquid iniquus est Deus, qui infert iram?

6 secundum hominem dico. Absit. Alioquin quomodo judicabit Deus hunc mundum?

7 Si enim veritas Dei in meo mendacio abundavit in gloriam ipsius: quid adhuc et ego tamquam peccator judicor?

8 et non (sicut blasphemamur, et sicut aiunt quidam nos dicere) faciamus mala ut veniant bona: quorum damnatio justa est.

9 Quid ergo? præcellimus eos? Nequaquam. Causati enim sumus Judæos et Græcos omnes sub peccato esse,

10 sicut scriptum est: [Quia non est justus quisquam:

11 non est intelligens, non est requirens Deum.

12 Omnes declinaverunt, simul inutiles facti sunt:
non est qui faciat bonum, non est usque ad unum.

13 Sepulchrum patens est guttur eorum,
linguis suis dolose agebant:
venenum aspidum sub labiis eorum:

14 quorum os maledictione, et amaritudine plenum est:

15 veloces pedes eorum ad effundendum sanguinem:

16 contritio et infelicitas in viis eorum:

17 et viam pacis non cognoverunt:

18 non est timor Dei ante oculos eorum.]

19 Scimus autem quoniam quæcumque lex loquitur, iis, qui in lege sunt, loquitur: ut omne os obstruatur, et subditus fiat omnis mundus Deo:

20 quia ex operibus legis non justificabitur omnis caro coram illo. Per legem enim cognitio peccati.

21 Nunc autem sine lege justitia Dei manifestata est: testificata a lege et prophetis.

22 Justitia autem Dei per fidem Jesu Christi in omnes et super omnes qui credunt in eum: non enim est distinctio:

23 omnes enim peccaverunt, et egent gloria Dei.

24 Justificati gratis per gratiam ipsius, per redemptionem quæ est in Christo Jesu,

25 quem proposuit Deus propitiationem per fidem in sanguine ipsius, ad ostensionem justitiæ suæ propter remissionem præcedentium delictorum

26 in sustentatione Dei, ad ostensionem justitiæ ejus in hoc tempore: ut sit ipse justus, et justificans eum, qui est ex fide Jesu Christi.

27 Ubi est ergo gloriatio tua? Exclusa est. Per quam legem? Factorum? Non: sed per legem fidei.

28 Arbitramur enim justificari hominem per fidem sine operibus legis.

29 An Judæorum Deus tantum? nonne et gentium? Immo et gentium:

30 quoniam quidem unus est Deus, qui justificat circumcisionem ex fide, et præputium per fidem.

31 Legem ergo destruimus per fidem? Absit: sed legem statuimus.
