3 John 1

1 ὁ πρεσβύτερος γαΐῳ τῶ ἀγαπητῶ, ὃν ἐγὼ ἀγαπῶ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ.

2 ἀγαπητέ, περὶ πάντων εὔχομαί σε εὐοδοῦσθαι καὶ ὑγιαίνειν, καθὼς εὐοδοῦταί σου ἡ ψυχή.

3 ἐχάρην γὰρ λίαν ἐρχομένων ἀδελφῶν καὶ μαρτυρούντων σου τῇ ἀληθείᾳ, καθὼς σὺ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ περιπατεῖς.

4 μειζοτέραν τούτων οὐκ ἔχω χαράν, ἵνα ἀκούω τὰ ἐμὰ τέκνα ἐν τῇ ἀληθείᾳ περιπατοῦντα.

5 ἀγαπητέ, πιστὸν ποιεῖς ὃ ἐὰν ἐργάσῃ εἰς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ τοῦτο ξένους,

6 οἳ ἐμαρτύρησάν σου τῇ ἀγάπῃ ἐνώπιον ἐκκλησίας, οὓς καλῶς ποιήσεις προπέμψας ἀξίως τοῦ θεοῦ·

7 ὑπὲρ γὰρ τοῦ ὀνόματος ἐξῆλθον μηδὲν λαμβάνοντες ἀπὸ τῶν ἐθνικῶν.

8 ἡμεῖς οὗν ὀφείλομεν ὑπολαμβάνειν τοὺς τοιούτους, ἵνα συνεργοὶ γινώμεθα τῇ ἀληθείᾳ.

9 ἔγραψά τι τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ· ἀλλ᾽ ὁ φιλοπρωτεύων αὐτῶν διοτρέφης οὐκ ἐπιδέχεται ἡμᾶς.

10 διὰ τοῦτο, ἐὰν ἔλθω, ὑπομνήσω αὐτοῦ τὰ ἔργα ἃ ποιεῖ, λόγοις πονηροῖς φλυαρῶν ἡμᾶς· καὶ μὴ ἀρκούμενος ἐπὶ τούτοις οὔτε αὐτὸς ἐπιδέχεται τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ τοὺς βουλομένους κωλύει καὶ ἐκ τῆς ἐκκλησίας ἐκβάλλει.

11 ἀγαπητέ, μὴ μιμοῦ τὸ κακὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ ἀγαθόν. ὁ ἀγαθοποιῶν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν· ὁ κακοποιῶν οὐχ ἑώρακεν τὸν θεόν.

12 δημητρίῳ μεμαρτύρηται ὑπὸ πάντων καὶ ὑπὸ αὐτῆς τῆς ἀληθείας· καὶ ἡμεῖς δὲ μαρτυροῦμεν, καὶ οἶδας ὅτι ἡ μαρτυρία ἡμῶν ἀληθής ἐστιν.

13 πολλὰ εἶχον γράψαι σοι, ἀλλ᾽ οὐ θέλω διὰ μέλανος καὶ καλάμου σοι γράφειν·

14 ἐλπίζω δὲ εὐθέως σε ἰδεῖν, καὶ στόμα πρὸς στόμα λαλήσομεν.

15 εἰρήνη σοι. ἀσπάζονταί σε οἱ φίλοι. ἀσπάζου τοὺς φίλους κατ᾽ ὄνομα.

8  We2249 therefore3767 ought3784 to receive618 such,5108 that2443 we might be1096 fellow helpers4904 to the3588 truth.225

9  I wrote1125 unto the3588 church:1577 but235 Diotrephes,1361 who loveth to have the preeminence5383 among them,848 receiveth1926 us2248 not.3756

10  Wherefore,1223 5124 if1437 I come,2064 I will remember5279 his846 deeds2041 which3739 he doth,4160 prating against5396 us2248 with malicious4190 words:3056 and2532 not3361 content714 therewith,1909 5125 neither3777 doth he848 himself receive1926 the3588 brethren,80 and2532 forbiddeth2967 them that would,1014 and2532 casteth1544 them out of1537 the3588 church.1577

11  Beloved,27 follow3401 not3361 that which is evil,2556 but235 that which is good.18 He that doeth good15 is2076 of1537 God:2316 but1161 he that doeth evil2554 hath not3756 seen3708 God.2316

12  Demetrius1216 hath good report3140 of5259 all3956 men, and2532 of5259 the3588 truth225 itself:846 yea,1161 and2532 we2249 also bear record;3140 and2532 ye know1492 that3754 our2257 record3141 is2076 true.227

13  I had2192 many things4183 to write,1125 but235 I will2309 not3756 with1223 ink3188 and2532 pen2563 write1125 unto thee:4671

3 Gavisus sum valde venientibus fratribus, et testimonium perhibentibus veritati tuæ, sicut tu in veritate ambulas.

4 Majorem horum non habeo gratiam, quam ut audiam filios meos in veritate ambulare.

5 Carissime, fideliter facis quidquid operaris in fratres, et hoc in peregrinos,

6 qui testimonium reddiderunt caritati tuæ in conspectu ecclesiæ: quos, benefaciens, deduces digne Deo.

7 Pro nomine enim ejus profecti sunt, nihil accipientes a gentibus.

8 Nos ergo debemus suscipere hujusmodi, ut cooperatores simus veritatis.

9 Scripsissem forsitan ecclesiæ: sed is qui amat primatum genere in eis, Diotrephes, non recipit nos:

10 propter hoc si venero, commonebo ejus opera, quæ facit, verbis malignis garriens in nos: et quasi non ei ista sufficiant, neque ipse suscipit fratres: et eos qui suscipiunt, prohibet, et de ecclesia ejicit.

11 Carissime, noli imitari malum, sed quod bonum est. Qui benefacit, ex Deo est: qui malefacit, non vidit Deum.

12 Demetrio testimonium redditur ab omnibus, et ab ipsa veritate, sed et nos testimonium perhibemus: et nosti quoniam testimonium nostrum verum est.

13 Multa habui tibi scribere: sed nolui per atramentum et calamum scribere tibi.

14 Spero autem protinus te videre, et os ad os loquemur. Pax tibi. Salutant te amici. Saluta amicos nominatim.
