Jeremiah 51

KJV

1  Thus3541 saith559 the LORD;3068 Behold,2009 I will raise up5782 against5921 Babylon,894 and against413 them that dwell3427 in the midst3820 of them that rise up6965 against me, a destroying7843 wind;7307

2  And will send7971 unto Babylon894 fanners,2114 that shall fan2219 her, and shall empty1238 853 her land:776 for3588 in the day3117 of trouble7451 they shall be1961 against5921 her round about.4480 5439

3  Against413 him that bendeth1869 let the archer1869 bend1869 his bow,7198 and against413 him that lifteth himself up5927 in his brigandine:5630 and spare2550 ye not408 her young men;970 destroy ye utterly2763 all3605 her host.6635

4  Thus the slain2491 shall fall5307 in the land776 of the Chaldeans,3778 and they that are thrust through1856 in her streets.2351

5  For3588 Israel3478 hath not3808 been forsaken,488 nor Judah3063 of his God,4480 430 of the LORD4480 3068 of hosts;6635 though3588 their land776 was filled4390 with sin817 against the Holy One4480 6918 of Israel.3478

6  Flee5127 out of the midst4480 8432 of Babylon,894 and deliver4422 every man376 his soul:5315 be not408 cut off1826 in her iniquity;5771 for3588 this1931 is the time6256 of the LORD's3068 vengeance;5360 he will render7999 unto her a recompense.1576

7  Babylon894 hath been a golden2091 cup3563 in the LORD's3068 hand,3027 that made all3605 the earth776 drunken:7937 the nations1471 have drunken8354 of her wine;4480 3196 therefore5921 3651 the nations1471 are mad.1984

8  Babylon894 is suddenly6597 fallen5307 and destroyed:7665 howl3213 for5921 her; take3947 balm6875 for her pain,4341 if so be194 she may be healed.7495

9  We would have healed7495 853 Babylon,894 but she is not3808 healed:7495 forsake5800 her, and let us go1980 every one376 into his own country:776 for3588 her judgment4941 reacheth5060 unto413 heaven,8064 and is lifted up5375 even to5704 the skies.7834

10  The LORD3068 hath brought forth3318 853 our righteousness:6666 come,935 and let us declare5608 in Zion6726 853 the work4639 of the LORD3068 our God.430

11  Make bright1305 the arrows;2671 gather4390 the shields:7982 the LORD3068 hath raised up5782 853 the spirit7307 of the kings4428 of the Medes:4074 for3588 his device4209 is against5921 Babylon,894 to destroy7843 it; because3588 it1931 is the vengeance5360 of the LORD,3068 the vengeance5360 of his temple.1964

12  Set up5375 the standard5251 upon413 the walls2346 of Babylon,894 make the watch4929 strong,2388 set up6965 the watchmen,8104 prepare3559 the ambushes:693 for3588 the LORD3068 hath both1571 devised2161 and1571 done6213 853 that which834 he spoke1696 against413 the inhabitants3427 of Babylon.894

13  O thou that dwellest7931 upon5921 many7227 waters,4325 abundant7227 in treasures,214 thine end7093 is come,935 and the measure520 of thy covetousness.1215

14  The LORD3068 of hosts6635 hath sworn7650 by himself,5315 saying, Surely3588 518 I will fill4390 thee with men,120 as with caterpillars;3218 and they shall lift up6030 a shout1959 against5921 thee.

15  He hath made6213 the earth776 by his power,3581 he hath established3559 the world8398 by his wisdom,2451 and hath stretched out5186 the heaven8064 by his understanding.8394

16  When he uttereth5414 his voice,6963 there is a multitude1995 of waters4325 in the heavens;8064 and he causeth the vapors5387 to ascend5927 from the ends4480 7097 of the earth:776 he maketh6213 lightnings1300 with rain,4306 and bringeth forth3318 the wind7307 out of his treasures.4480 214

17  Every3605 man120 is brutish1197 by his knowledge;4480 1847 every3605 founder6884 is confounded3001 by the graven image:4480 6459 for3588 his molten image5262 is falsehood,8267 and there is no3808 breath7307 in them.

18  They1992 are vanity,1892 the work4639 of errors:8595 in the time6256 of their visitation6486 they shall perish.6

19  The portion2506 of Jacob3290 is not3808 like them;428 for3588 he1931 is the former3335 of all things:3605 and Israel is the rod7626 of his inheritance:5159 the LORD3068 of hosts6635 is his name.8034

20  Thou859 art my battle axe4661 and weapons3627 of war:4421 for with thee will I break in pieces5310 the nations,1471 and with thee will I destroy7843 kingdoms;4467

21  And with thee will I break in pieces5310 the horse5483 and his rider;7392 and with thee will I break in pieces5310 the chariot7393 and his rider;7392

22  With thee also will I break in pieces5310 man376 and woman;802 and with thee will I break in pieces5310 old2205 and young;5288 and with thee will I break in pieces5310 the young man970 and the maid;1330

23  I will also break in pieces5310 with thee the shepherd7462 and his flock;5739 and with thee will I break in pieces5310 the husbandman406 and his yoke of oxen;6776 and with thee will I break in pieces5310 captains6346 and rulers.5461

24  And I will render7999 unto Babylon894 and to all3605 the inhabitants3427 of Chaldea3778 853 all3605 their evil7451 that834 they have done6213 in Zion6726 in your sight,5869 saith5002 the LORD.3068

25  Behold,2009 I am against413 thee, O destroying4889 mountain,2022 saith5002 the LORD,3068 which destroyest7843 853 all3605 the earth:776 and I will stretch out5186 853 mine hand3027 upon5921 thee, and roll thee down1556 from4480 the rocks,5553 and will make5414 thee a burnt8316 mountain.2022

26  And they shall not3808 take3947 of4480 thee a stone68 for a corner,6438 nor a stone68 for foundations;4146 but3588 thou shalt be1961 desolate8077 forever,5769 saith5002 the LORD.3068

27  Set ye up5375 a standard5251 in the land,776 blow8628 the trumpet7782 among the nations,1471 prepare6942 the nations1471 against5921 her, call together8085 against5921 her the kingdoms4467 of Ararat,780 Minni,4508 and Ashchenaz;813 appoint6485 a captain2951 against5921 her; cause the horses5483 to come up5927 as the rough5569 caterpillars.3218

28  Prepare6942 against5921 her the nations1471 with 853 the kings4428 of the Medes,4074 853 the captains6346 thereof, and all3605 the rulers5461 thereof, and all3605 the land776 of his dominion.4475

29  And the land776 shall tremble7493 and sorrow:2342 for3588 every purpose4284 of the LORD3068 shall be performed6965 against5921 Babylon,894 to make7760 853 the land776 of Babylon894 a desolation8047 without4480 369 an inhabitant.3427

30  The mighty men1368 of Babylon894 have forborne2308 to fight,3898 they have remained3427 in their holds:4679 their might1369 hath failed;5405 they became1961 as women:802 they have burned3341 her dwelling places;4908 her bars1280 are broken.7665

31  One post7323 shall run7323 to meet7125 another,7323 and one messenger5046 to meet7125 another,5046 to show5046 the king4428 of Babylon894 that3588 his city5892 is taken3920 at one end,4480 7097

32  And that the passages4569 are stopped,8610 and the reeds98 they have burned8313 with fire,784 and the men376 of war4421 are frightened.926

33  For3588 thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel;3478 The daughter1323 of Babylon894 is like a threshingfloor,1637 it is time6256 to thresh1869 her: yet5750 a little while,4592 and the time6256 of her harvest7105 shall come.935

34  Nebuchadnezzar5019 the king4428 of Babylon894 hath devoured398 me, he hath crushed2000 me, he hath made3322 me an empty7385 vessel,3627 he hath swallowed me up1104 like a dragon,8577 he hath filled4390 his belly3770 with my delicacies,4480 5730 he hath cast me out.1740

35  The violence2555 done to me and to my flesh7607 be upon5921 Babylon,894 shall the inhabitant3427 of Zion6726 say;559 and my blood1818 upon413 the inhabitants3427 of Chaldea,3778 shall Jerusalem3389 say.559

36  Therefore3651 thus3541 saith559 the LORD;3068 Behold,2009 I will plead7378 853 thy cause,7379 and take vengeance for thee;5358 853 5360 and I will dry up2717 853 her sea,3220 and make 853 her springs4726 dry.3001

37  And Babylon894 shall become1961 heaps,1530 a dwelling place4583 for dragons,8577 an astonishment,8047 and a hissing,8322 without4480 369 an inhabitant.3427

38  They shall roar7580 together3162 like lions:3715 they shall yell5286 as lions'738 whelps.1484

39  In their heat2527 I will make7896 853 their feasts,4960 and I will make them drunken,7937 that4616 they may rejoice,5937 and sleep3462 a perpetual5769 sleep,8142 and not3808 wake,6974 saith5002 the LORD.3068

40  I will bring them down3381 like lambs3733 to the slaughter,2873 like rams352 with5973 he goats.6260

41  How349 is Sheshach8347 taken!3920 and how is the praise8416 of the whole3605 earth776 surprised!8610 how349 is Babylon894 become1961 an astonishment8047 among the nations!1471

42  The sea3220 is come up5927 upon5921 Babylon:894 she is covered3680 with the multitude1995 of the waves1530 thereof.

43  Her cities5892 are1961 a desolation,8047 a dry6723 land,776 and a wilderness,6160 a land776 wherein2004 no3605 3808 man376 dwelleth,3427 neither3808 doth any son1121 of man120 pass5674 thereby.2004

44  And I will punish6485 5921 Bel1078 in Babylon,894 and I will bring forth3318 out of his mouth4480 6310 853 that which he hath swallowed up:1105 and the nations1471 shall not3808 flow together5102 any more5750 unto413 him: yea,1571 the wall2346 of Babylon894 shall fall.5307

45  My people,5971 go3318 ye out of the midst4480 8432 of her, and deliver4422 ye every man376 853 his soul5315 from the fierce4480 2740 anger639 of the LORD.3068

46  And lest6435 your heart3824 faint,7401 and ye fear3372 for the rumor8052 that shall be heard8085 in the land;776 a rumor8052 shall both come935 one year,8141 and after310 that in another year8141 shall come a rumor,8052 and violence2555 in the land,776 ruler4910 against5921 ruler.4910

47  Therefore,3651 behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 that I will do judgment6485 upon5921 the graven images6456 of Babylon:894 and her whole3605 land776 shall be confounded,954 and all3605 her slain2491 shall fall5307 in the midst8432 of her.

48  Then the heaven8064 and the earth,776 and all3605 that834 is therein, shall sing7442 for5921 Babylon:894 for3588 the spoilers7703 shall come935 unto her from the north,4480 6828 saith5002 the LORD.3068

49  As1571 Babylon894 hath caused the slain2491 of Israel3478 to fall,5307 so1571 at Babylon894 shall fall5307 the slain2491 of all3605 the earth.776

50  Ye that have escaped6412 the sword,4480 2719 go away,1980 stand not still:408 5975 remember2142 853 the LORD3068 afar off,7350 and let Jerusalem3389 come5927 into5921 your mind.3824

51  We are confounded,954 because3588 we have heard8085 reproach:2781 shame3639 hath covered3680 our faces:6440 for3588 strangers2114 are come935 into5921 the sanctuaries4720 of the LORD's3068 house.1004

52  Wherefore,3651 behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 saith5002 the LORD,3068 that I will do judgment6485 upon5921 her graven images:6456 and through all3605 her land776 the wounded2491 shall groan.602

53  Though3588 Babylon894 should mount up5927 to heaven,8064 and though3588 she should fortify1219 the height4791 of her strength,5797 yet from4480 854 me shall spoilers7703 come935 unto her, saith5002 the LORD.3068

54  A sound6963 of a cry2201 cometh from Babylon,4480 894 and great1419 destruction7667 from the land4480 776 of the Chaldeans:3778

55  Because3588 the LORD3068 hath spoiled7703 853 Babylon,894 and destroyed6 out of4480 her the great1419 voice;6963 when her waves1530 do roar1993 like great7227 waters,4325 a noise7588 of their voice6963 is uttered:5414

56  Because3588 the spoiler7703 is come935 upon5921 her, even upon5921 Babylon,894 and her mighty men1368 are taken,3920 every one of their bows7198 is broken:2865 for3588 the LORD3068 God410 of recompenses1578 shall surely requite.7999 7999

57  And I will make drunk7937 her princes,8269 and her wise2450 men, her captains,6346 and her rulers,5461 and her mighty men:1368 and they shall sleep3462 a perpetual5769 sleep,8142 and not3808 wake,6974 saith5002 the King,4428 whose name8034 is the LORD3068 of hosts.6635

58  Thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 of hosts;6635 The broad7342 walls2346 of Babylon894 shall be utterly broken,6209 6209 and her high1364 gates8179 shall be burned3341 with fire;784 and the people5971 shall labor3021 in vain,7385 and the folk3816 in the fire,784 and they shall be weary.3286

59  The word1697 which834 Jeremiah3414 the prophet5030 commanded6680 853 Seraiah8304 the son1121 of Neriah,5374 the son1121 of Maaseiah,4271 when he went1980 with854 Zedekiah6667 the king4428 of Judah3063 into Babylon894 in the fourth7243 year8141 of his reign.4427 And this Seraiah8304 was a quiet4496 prince.8269

60  So Jeremiah3414 wrote3789 in413 a259 book5612 853 all3605 the evil7451 that834 should come935 upon413 Babylon,894 even 853 all3605 these428 words1697 that are written3789 against413 Babylon.894

61  And Jeremiah3414 said559 to413 Seraiah,8304 When thou comest935 to Babylon,894 and shalt see,7200 and shalt read7121 853 all3605 these428 words;1697

62  Then shalt thou say,559 O LORD,3068 thou859 hast spoken1696 against413 this2088 place,4725 to cut it off,3772 that none1115 shall1961 remain3427 in it, neither man4480 120 nor5704 beast,929 but3588 that it shall be1961 desolate8077 forever.5769

63  And it shall be,1961 when thou hast made an end3615 of reading7121 853 this2088 book,5612 that thou shalt bind7194 a stone68 to5921 it, and cast7993 it into413 the midst8432 of Euphrates:6578

64  And thou shalt say,559 Thus3602 shall Babylon894 sink,8257 and shall not3808 rise6965 from4480 6440 the evil7451 that834 I595 will bring935 upon5921 her: and they shall be weary.3286 Thus5704 far2008 are the words1697 of Jeremiah.3414

1 [Hæc dicit Dominus:
Ecce ego suscitabo super Babylonem et super habitatores ejus,
qui cor suum levaverunt contra me,
quasi ventum pestilentem:

2 et mittam in Babylonem ventilatores,
et ventilabunt eam et demolientur terram ejus,
quoniam venerunt super eam undique in die afflictionis ejus.

3 Non tendat qui tendit arcum suum,
et non ascendat loricatus:
nolite parcere juvenibus ejus;
interficite omnem militiam ejus.

4 Et cadent interfecti in terra Chaldæorum,
et vulnerati in regionibus ejus.

5 Quoniam non fuit viduatus Israël et Juda
a Deo suo, Domino exercituum,
terra autem eorum repleta est delicto
a Sancto Israël.

6 Fugite de medio Babylonis,
et salvet unusquisque animam suam:
nolite tacere super iniquitatem ejus,
quoniam tempus ultionis est a Domino:
vicissitudinem ipse retribuet ei.

7 Calix aureus Babylon in manu Domini,
inebrians omnem terram:
de vino ejus biberunt gentes,
et ideo commotæ sunt.

8 Subito cecidit Babylon, et contrita est.
Ululate super eam:
tollite resinam ad dolorem ejus,
si forte sanetur.

9 Curavimus Babylonem, et non est sanata:
derelinquamus eam, et eamus unusquisque in terram suam:
quoniam pervenit usque ad cælos judicium ejus,
et elevatum est usque ad nubes.

10 Protulit Dominus justitias nostras:
venite, et narremus in Sion opus Domini Dei nostri.

11 Acuite sagittas, implete pharetras:
suscitavit Dominus spiritum regum Medorum:
ultio templi sui.

12 Super muros Babylonis levate signum,
augete custodiam, levate custodes,
præparate insidias:
quia cogitavit Dominus,

locuples in thesauris:
venit finis tuus, pedalis præcisionis tuæ.

14 Juravit Dominus exercituum per animam suam:
Quoniam replebo te hominibus quasi brucho,
et super te celeuma cantabitur.

15 Qui fecit terram in fortitudine sua,
præparavit orbem in sapientia sua,
et prudentia sua extendit cælos.

16 Dante eo vocem, multiplicantur aquæ in cælo:
qui levat nubes ab extremo terræ,
fulgura in pluviam fecit,
et produxit ventum de thesauris suis.

17 Stultus factus est omnis homo a scientia;
confusus est omnis conflator in sculptili:
quia mendax est conflatio eorum,
nec est spiritus in eis.

18 Vana sunt opera, et risu digna:
in tempore visitationis suæ peribunt.

19 Non sicut hæc, pars Jacob,
quia qui fecit omnia ipse est:
et Israël sceptrum hæreditatis ejus:
Dominus exercituum nomen ejus.

20 Collidis tu mihi vasa belli:
et ego collidam in te gentes,
et disperdam in te regna:

21 et collidam in te equum et equitem ejus:
et collidam in te currum et ascensorem ejus:

22 et collidam in te virum et mulierem:
et collidam in te senem et puerum:
et collidam in te juvenem et virginem:

23 et collidam in te pastorem et gregem ejus:
et collidam in te agricolam et jugales ejus:
et collidam in te duces et magistratus:

24 et reddam Babyloni, et cunctis habitatoribus Chaldææ,
omne malum suum quod fecerunt in Sion,
in oculis vestris, ait Dominus.

27 Levate signum in terra,
clangite buccina in gentibus,
sanctificate super eam gentes,
annuntiate contra illam regibus Ararat, Menni, et Ascenez:
numerate contra eam Taphsar,
adducite equum quasi bruchum aculeatum.

28 Sanctificate contra eam gentes,
reges Mediæ, duces ejus, et universos magistratus ejus,
cunctamque terram potestatis ejus.

29 Et commovebitur terra et conturbabitur,
quia evigilabit contra Babylonem cogitatio Domini,
ut ponat terram Babylonis desertam et inhabitabilem.

30 Cessaverunt fortes Babylonis a prælio;
habitaverunt in præsidiis:
devoratum est robur eorum,
et facti sunt quasi mulieres:
incensa sunt tabernacula ejus,
contriti sunt vectes ejus.

31 Currens obviam currenti veniet,
et nuntius obvius nuntianti,
ut annuntiet regi Babylonis
quia capta est civitas ejus a summo usque ad summum.

32 Et vada præoccupata sunt,
et paludes incensæ sunt igni,
et viri bellatores conturbati sunt.

33 Quia hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël:
Filia Babylonis quasi area,
tempus trituræ ejus:
adhuc modicum, et veniet tempus messionis ejus.

34 Comedit me, devoravit me Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis:
reddidit me quasi vas inane,
absorbuit me quasi draco,
replevit ventrem suum teneritudine mea, et ejecit me.

35 Iniquitas adversum me
et caro mea super Babylonem,
dicit habitatio Sion:
et sanguis meus super habitatores Chaldææ, dicit Jerusalem.

36 Propterea hæc dicit Dominus:
Ecce ego judicabo causam tuam,
et ulciscar ultionem tuam:
et desertum faciam mare ejus,
et siccabo venam ejus.

37 Et erit Babylon in tumulos,
habitatio draconum, stupor et sibilus,
eo quod non sit habitator.

38 Simul ut leones rugient;
excutient comas veluti catuli leonum.

39 In calore eorum ponam potus eorum,

42 Ascendit super Babylonem mare:
multitudine fluctuum ejus operta est.

43 Factæ sunt civitates ejus in stuporem,
terra inhabitabilis et deserta,
terra in qua nullus habitet,

47 Propterea ecce dies veniunt,
et visitabo super sculptilia Babylonis,
et omnis terra ejus confundetur,
et universi interfecti ejus cadent in medio ejus.

48 Et laudabunt super Babylonem cæli et terra,
et omnia quæ in eis sunt:
quia ab aquilone venient ei prædones, ait Dominus.

49 Et quomodo fecit Babylon,
ut caderent occisi in Israël,
sic de Babylone
cadent occisi in universa terra.

50 Qui fugistis gladium, venite,
nolite stare:
recordamini procul Domini,
et Jerusalem ascendat super cor vestrum.

51 Confusi sumus, quoniam audivimus opprobrium:
operuit ignominia facies nostras,
quia venerunt alieni super sanctificationem domus Domini.

52 Propterea ecce dies veniunt, ait Dominus,
et visitabo super sculptilia ejus,
et in omni terra ejus mugiet vulneratus.

53 Si ascenderit Babylon in cælum,
et firmaverit in excelso robur suum,
a me venient vastatores ejus, ait Dominus.

54 Vox clamoris de Babylone,
et contritio magna de terra Chaldæorum:

55 quoniam vastavit Dominus Babylonem,
et perdidit ex ea vocem magnam:
et sonabunt fluctus eorum quasi aquæ multæ;
dedit sonitum vox eorum:

56 quia venit super eam, id est super Babylonem, prædo,
et apprehensi sunt fortes ejus,
et emarcuit arcus eorum,
quia fortis ultor Dominus reddens retribuet.

57 Et inebriabo principes ejus, et sapientes ejus,
et duces ejus, et magistratus ejus, et fortes ejus:
et dormient somnum sempiternum,
et non expergiscentur, ait Rex
(Dominus exercituum nomen ejus).

58 Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum:
Murus Babylonis ille latissimus suffossione suffodietur,
