Jeremiah 46

KJV

1  The word1697 of the LORD3068 which834 came1961 to413 Jeremiah3414 the prophet5030 against5921 the Gentiles;1471

2  Against Egypt,4714 against5921 the army2428 of Pharaoh Necho6549 king4428 of Egypt,4714 which834 was1961 by5921 the river5104 Euphrates6578 in Carchemish,3751 which834 Nebuchadnezzar5019 king4428 of Babylon894 smote5221 in the fourth7243 year8141 of Jehoiakim3079 the son1121 of Josiah2977 king4428 of Judah.3063

3  Order6186 ye the buckler4043 and shield,6793 and draw near5066 to battle.4421

4  Harness631 the horses;5483 and get up,5927 ye horsemen,6571 and stand forth3320 with your helmets;3553 furbish4838 the spears,7420 and put on3847 the brigandines.5630

5  Wherefore4069 have I seen7200 them1992 dismayed2844 and turned away5472 back?268 and their mighty ones1368 are beaten down,3807 and are fled apace,4498 5127 and look not back:6437 3808 for fear4032 was round about,4480 5439 saith5002 the LORD.3068

6  Let not408 the swift7031 flee away,5127 nor408 the mighty man1368 escape;4422 they shall stumble,3782 and fall5307 toward the north6828 by5921 3027 the river5104 Euphrates.6578

7  Who4310 is this2088 that cometh up5927 as a flood,2975 whose waters4325 are moved1607 as the rivers?5104

8  Egypt4714 riseth up5927 like a flood,2975 and his waters4325 are moved1607 like the rivers;5104 and he saith,559 I will go up,5927 and will cover3680 the earth;776 I will destroy6 the city5892 and the inhabitants3427 thereof.

9  Come up,5927 ye horses;5483 and rage,1984 ye chariots;7393 and let the mighty men1368 come forth;3318 the Ethiopians3568 and the Libyans,6316 that handle8610 the shield;4043 and the Lydians,3866 that handle8610 and bend1869 the bow.7198

10  For this1931 is the day3117 of the Lord136 GOD3069 of hosts,6635 a day3117 of vengeance,5360 that he may avenge5358 him of his adversaries:4480 6862 and the sword2719 shall devour,398 and it shall be satiate7646 and made drunk7301 with their blood:4480 1818 for3588 the Lord136 GOD3069 of hosts6635 hath a sacrifice2077 in the north6828 country776 by413 the river5104 Euphrates.6578

11  Go up5927 into Gilead,1568 and take3947 balm,6875 O virgin,1330 the daughter1323 of Egypt:4714 in vain7723 shalt thou use many7235 medicines;7499 for thou shalt not369 be cured.8585

12  The nations1471 have heard8085 of thy shame,7036 and thy cry6682 hath filled4390 the land:776 for3588 the mighty man1368 hath stumbled3782 against the mighty,1368 and they are fallen5307 both8147 together.3162

13  The word1697 that834 the LORD3068 spoke1696 to413 Jeremiah3414 the prophet,5030 how Nebuchadnezzar5019 king4428 of Babylon894 should come935 and smite5221 853 the land776 of Egypt.4714

14  Declare5046 ye in Egypt,4714 and publish8085 in Migdol,4024 and publish8085 in Noph5297 and in Tahpanhes:8471 say559 ye, Stand fast,3320 and prepare3559 thee; for3588 the sword2719 shall devour398 round about5439 thee.

15  Why4069 are thy valiant47 men swept away?5502 they stood5975 not,3808 because3588 the LORD3068 did drive1920 them.

16  He made many7235 to fall,3782 yea,1571 one376 fell5307 upon413 another:7453 and they said,559 Arise,6965 and let us go again7725 to413 our own people,5971 and to413 the land776 of our nativity,4138 from4480 6440 the oppressing3238 sword.2719

17  They did cry7121 there,8033 Pharaoh6547 king4428 of Egypt4714 is but a noise;7588 he hath passed5674 the time appointed.4150

18  As I589 live,2416 saith5002 the King,4428 whose name8034 is the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 Surely3588 as Tabor8396 is among the mountains,2022 and as Carmel3760 by the sea,3220 so shall he come.935

19  O thou daughter1323 dwelling3427 in Egypt,4714 furnish3627 6213 thyself to go into captivity:1473 for3588 Noph5297 shall be1961 waste8047 and desolate3341 without4480 369 an inhabitant.3427

20  Egypt4714 is like a very fair3304 heifer,5697 but destruction7171 cometh;935 it cometh935 out of the north.4480 6828

21  Also1571 her hired men7916 are in the midst7130 of her like fatted4770 bullocks;5695 for3588 they1992 also1571 are turned back,6437 and are fled away5127 together:3162 they did not3808 stand,5975 because3588 the day3117 of their calamity343 was come935 upon5921 them, and the time6256 of their visitation.6486

22  The voice6963 thereof shall go1980 like a serpent;5175 for3588 they shall march1980 with an army,2428 and come935 against her with axes,7134 as hewers2404 of wood.6086

23  They shall cut down3772 her forest,3293 saith5002 the LORD,3068 though3588 it cannot3808 be searched;2713 because3588 they are more7231 than the grasshoppers,4480 697 and are innumerable.369 4557

24  The daughter1323 of Egypt4714 shall be confounded;3001 she shall be delivered5414 into the hand3027 of the people5971 of the north.6828

25  The LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel,3478 saith;559 Behold,2009 I will punish6485 413 the multitude528 of No,4480 4996 and Pharaoh,6547 and Egypt,4714 with5921 their gods,430 and their kings;4428 even Pharaoh,6547 and all them that trust982 in him:

26  And I will deliver5414 them into the hand3027 of those that seek1245 their lives,5315 and into the hand3027 of Nebuchadnezzar5019 king4428 of Babylon,894 and into the hand3027 of his servants:5650 and afterward310 3651 it shall be inhabited,7931 as in the days3117 of old,6924 saith5002 the LORD.3068

27  But fear3372 not408 thou,859 O my servant5650 Jacob,3290 and be not408 dismayed,2865 O Israel:3478 for,3588 behold,2009 I will save3467 thee from afar off,4480 7350 and thy seed2233 from the land4480 776 of their captivity;7628 and Jacob3290 shall return,7725 and be in rest8252 and at ease,7599 and none369 shall make him afraid.2729

28  Fear3372 thou859 not,408 O Jacob3290 my servant,5650 saith5002 the LORD:3068 for3588 I589 am with854 thee; for3588 I will make6213 a full end3617 of all3605 the nations1471 whither834 8033 I have driven5080 thee: but I will not3808 make6213 a full end3617 of thee, but correct3256 thee in measure;4941 yet will I not3808 leave thee wholly5352 unpunished.5352

state in galeis, polite lanceas, induite vos loricis.

5 Quid igitur? vidi ipsos pavidos,
et terga vertentes,
fortes eorum cæsos:
fugerunt conciti, nec respexerunt:
terror undique, ait Dominus.

6 Non fugiat velox,
nec salvari se putet fortis:
ad aquilonem juxta flumen Euphraten
victi sunt, et ruerunt.

7 Quis est iste, qui quasi flumen ascendit,
et veluti fluviorum intumescunt gurgites ejus?

8 Ægyptus fluminis instar ascendit,
et velut flumina movebuntur fluctus ejus,
et dicet: Ascendens operiam terram:
perdam civitatem, et habitatores ejus.

9 Ascendite equos,
et exsultate in curribus,
et procedant fortes,
Æthiopia et Libyes tenentes scutum,
et Lydii arripientes et jacientes sagittas.

10 Dies autem ille Domini Dei exercituum dies ultionis,
ut sumat vindictam de inimicis suis:
devorabit gladius, et saturabitur,
et inebriabitur sanguine eorum:
victima enim Domini Dei exercituum
in terra aquilonis juxta flumen Euphraten.

11 Ascende in Galaad, et tolle resinam,
virgo filia Ægypti:
frustra multiplicas medicamina:
sanitas non erit tibi.

12 Audierunt gentes ignominiam tuam,
et ululatus tuus replevit terram:
quia fortis impegit in fortem,

15 Quare computruit fortis tuus?
non stetit, quoniam Dominus subvertit eum.

16 Multiplicavit ruentes,
ceciditque vir ad proximum suum, et dicent:
Surge, et revertamur ad populum nostrum,
et ad terram nativitatis nostræ,
a facie gladii columbæ.

17 Vocate nomen Pharaonis regis Ægypti:
tumultum adduxit tempus.

18 Vivo ego, inquit Rex (Dominus exercituum nomen ejus),
quoniam sicut Thabor in montibus,
et sicut Carmelus in mari, veniet.

19 Vasa transmigrationis fac tibi,
habitatrix filia Ægypti:
quia Memphis in solitudinem erit,
et deseretur, et inhabitabilis erit.

20 Vitula elegans atque formosa Ægyptus,
stimulator ab aquilone veniet ei.

21 Mercenarii quoque ejus,
qui versabantur in medio ejus quasi vituli saginati,
versi sunt, et fugerunt simul,
nec stare potuerunt:
quia dies interfectionis eorum venit super eos,
tempus visitationis eorum.

22 Vox ejus quasi æris sonabit:
quoniam cum exercitu properabunt,
et cum securibus venient ei
quasi cædentes ligna.

23 Succiderunt saltum ejus, ait Dominus,
qui supputari non potest:
multiplicati sunt super locustas,
et non est eis numerus.

24 Confusa est filia Ægypti,
et tradita in manu populo aquilonis.

26 et dabo eos in manu quærentium animam eorum,
et in manu Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis,
et in manu servorum ejus:
et post hæc habitabitur sicut diebus pristinis, ait Dominus.

quia tecum ego sum:
quia ego consumam cunctas gentes ad quas ejeci te,
te vero non consumam:
sed castigabo te in judicio,
nec quasi innocenti parcam tibi.]
