1  Hear,⁸⁰⁸⁵ O Israel:³⁴⁷⁸ Thou⁸⁵⁹ art to pass over^{5674 853} Jordan³³⁸³ this day,³¹¹⁷ to go in⁹³⁵ to possess³⁴²³ nations¹⁴⁷¹ greater¹⁴¹⁹ and mightier⁶⁰⁹⁹ than⁴⁴⁸⁰ thyself, cities⁵⁸⁹² great¹⁴¹⁹ and fenced up¹²¹⁹ to heaven,⁸⁰⁶⁴

2  A people⁵⁹⁷¹ great¹⁴¹⁹ and tall,⁷³¹¹ the children¹¹²¹ of the Anakims,⁶⁰⁶² whom⁸³⁴ thou⁸⁵⁹ knowest,³⁰⁴⁵ and of whom thou⁸⁵⁹ hast heard⁸⁰⁸⁵ say, Who⁴³¹⁰ can stand³³²⁰ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the children¹¹²¹ of Anak!⁶⁰⁶¹

3  Understand³⁰⁴⁵ therefore this day,³¹¹⁷ that³⁵⁸⁸ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ thy God⁴³⁰ is he¹⁹³¹ which goeth over⁵⁶⁷⁴ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ thee; as a consuming³⁹⁸ fire⁷⁸⁴ he¹⁹³¹ shall destroy⁸⁰⁴⁵ them, and he¹⁹³¹ shall bring them down³⁶⁶⁵ before thy face:⁶⁴⁴⁰ so shalt thou drive them out,³⁴²³ and destroy⁶ them quickly,⁴¹¹⁸ as⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ hath said¹⁶⁹⁶ unto thee.

4  Speak⁵⁵⁹ not⁴⁰⁸ thou in thine heart,³⁸²⁴ after that the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ thy God⁴³⁰ hath cast them out^{1920 853} from before^{4480 6440} thee, saying,⁵⁵⁹ For my righteousness⁶⁶⁶⁶ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ hath brought me in⁹³⁵ to possess^{3423 853} this²⁰⁶³ land:⁷⁷⁶ but for the wickedness⁷⁵⁶⁴ of these⁴²⁸ nations¹⁴⁷¹ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ doth drive them out³⁴²³ from before^{4480 6440} thee.

5  Not³⁸⁰⁸ for thy righteousness,⁶⁶⁶⁶ or for the uprightness³⁴⁷⁶ of thine heart,³⁸²⁴ dost thou⁸⁵⁹ go⁹³⁵ to possess^{3423 853} their land:⁷⁷⁶ but³⁵⁸⁸ for the wickedness⁷⁵⁶⁴ of these⁴²⁸ nations¹⁴⁷¹ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ thy God⁴³⁰ doth drive them out³⁴²³ from before^{4480 6440} thee, and that⁴⁶¹⁶ he may perform^{6965 853} the word¹⁶⁹⁷ which⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ swore⁷⁶⁵⁰ unto thy fathers,¹ Abraham,⁸⁵ Isaac,³³²⁷ and Jacob.³²⁹⁰

6  Understand³⁰⁴⁵ therefore, that³⁵⁸⁸ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ thy God⁴³⁰ giveth⁵⁴¹⁴ thee not^{3808 853} this²⁰⁶³ good²⁸⁹⁶ land⁷⁷⁶ to possess³⁴²³ it for thy righteousness;⁶⁶⁶⁶ for³⁵⁸⁸ thou⁸⁵⁹ art a stiffnecked^{7186 6203} people.⁵⁹⁷¹

7  Remember,²¹⁴² and forget⁷⁹¹¹ not,^{408 853} how⁸³⁴ thou provokedst^{7107 853} the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ thy God⁴³⁰ to wrath in the wilderness:⁴⁰⁵⁷ from⁴⁴⁸⁰ the day³¹¹⁷ that⁸³⁴ thou didst depart³³¹⁸ out of the land^{4480 776} of Egypt,⁴⁷¹⁴ until⁵⁷⁰⁴ ye came⁹³⁵ unto⁵⁷⁰⁴ this²⁰⁸⁸ place,⁴⁷²⁵ ye have been¹⁹⁶¹ rebellious⁴⁷⁸⁴ against⁵⁹⁷³ the LORD.³⁰⁶⁸

8  Also in Horeb²⁷²² ye provoked^{7107 853} the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ to wrath, so that the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ was angry⁵⁹⁹ with you to have destroyed⁸⁰⁴⁵ you.

9  When I was gone up⁵⁹²⁷ into the mount²⁰²² to receive³⁹⁴⁷ the tables³⁸⁷¹ of stone,⁶⁸ even the tables³⁸⁷¹ of the covenant¹²⁸⁵ which⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ made³⁷⁷² with⁵⁹⁷³ you, then I abode³⁴²⁷ in the mount²⁰²² forty⁷⁰⁵ days³¹¹⁷ and forty⁷⁰⁵ nights,³⁹¹⁵ I neither³⁸⁰⁸ did eat³⁹⁸ bread³⁸⁹⁹ nor³⁸⁰⁸ drink⁸³⁵⁴ water:⁴³²⁵

10  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ delivered⁵⁴¹⁴ unto⁴¹³ me ⁸⁵³ two⁸¹⁴⁷ tables³⁸⁷¹ of stone⁶⁸ written³⁷⁸⁹ with the finger⁶⁷⁶ of God;⁴³⁰ and on⁵⁹²¹ them was written according to all³⁶⁰⁵ the words,¹⁶⁹⁷ which⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ spoke¹⁶⁹⁶ with⁵⁹⁷³ you in the mount²⁰²² out of the midst^{4480 8432} of the fire⁷⁸⁴ in the day³¹¹⁷ of the assembly.⁶⁹⁵¹

11  And it came to pass¹⁹⁶¹ at the end^{4480 7093} of forty⁷⁰⁵ days³¹¹⁷ and forty⁷⁰⁵ nights,³⁹¹⁵ that the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ gave^{5414 413} me ⁸⁵³ the two⁸¹⁴⁷ tables³⁸⁷¹ of stone,⁶⁸ even the tables³⁸⁷¹ of the covenant.¹²⁸⁵

12  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ me, Arise,⁶⁹⁶⁵ get thee down³³⁸¹ quickly⁴¹¹⁸ from hence;^{4480 2088} for³⁵⁸⁸ thy people⁵⁹⁷¹ which⁸³⁴ thou hast brought forth³³¹⁸ out of Egypt^{4480 4714} have corrupted⁷⁸⁴³ themselves; they are quickly⁴¹¹⁸ turned aside⁵⁴⁹³ out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the way¹⁸⁷⁰ which⁸³⁴ I commanded⁶⁶⁸⁰ them; they have made⁶²¹³ them a molten image.⁴⁵⁴¹

13  Furthermore the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ spoke⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ me, saying,⁵⁵⁹ I have seen^{7200 853} this²⁰⁸⁸ people,⁵⁹⁷¹ and, behold,²⁰⁰⁹ it¹⁹³¹ is a stiffnecked^{7186 6203} people:⁵⁹⁷¹

14  Let me alone,^{7503 4480} that I may destroy⁸⁰⁴⁵ them, and blot out^{4229 853} their name⁸⁰³⁴ from under^{4480 8478} heaven:⁸⁰⁶⁴ and I will make⁶²¹³ of thee a nation¹⁴⁷¹ mightier⁶⁰⁹⁹ and greater⁷²²⁷ than⁴⁴⁸⁰ they.

15  So I turned⁶⁴³⁷ and came down³³⁸¹ from⁴⁴⁸⁰ the mount,²⁰²² and the mount²⁰²² burned¹¹⁹⁷ with fire:⁷⁸⁴ and the two⁸¹⁴⁷ tables³⁸⁷¹ of the covenant¹²⁸⁵ were in⁵⁹²¹ my two⁸¹⁴⁷ hands.³⁰²⁷

16  And I looked,⁷²⁰⁰ and, behold,²⁰⁰⁹ ye had sinned²³⁹⁸ against the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ your God,⁴³⁰ and had made⁶²¹³ you a molten⁴⁵⁴¹ calf:⁵⁶⁹⁵ ye had turned aside⁵⁴⁹³ quickly⁴¹¹⁸ out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the way¹⁸⁷⁰ which⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ had commanded⁶⁶⁸⁰ you.

17  And I took⁸⁶¹⁰ the two⁸¹⁴⁷ tables,³⁸⁷¹ and cast⁷⁹⁹³ them out of^{4480 5921} my two⁸¹⁴⁷ hands,³⁰²⁷ and broke⁷⁶⁶⁵ them before your eyes.⁵⁸⁶⁹

18  And I fell down⁵³⁰⁷ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ as at the first,⁷²²³ forty⁷⁰⁵ days³¹¹⁷ and forty⁷⁰⁵ nights:³⁹¹⁵ I did neither³⁸⁰⁸ eat³⁹⁸ bread,³⁸⁹⁹ nor³⁸⁰⁸ drink⁸³⁵⁴ water,⁴³²⁵ because of⁵⁹²¹ all³⁶⁰⁵ your sins²⁴⁰³ which⁸³⁴ ye sinned,²³⁹⁸ in doing⁶²¹³ wickedly⁷⁴⁵¹ in the sight⁵⁸⁶⁹ of the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ to provoke him to anger.³⁷⁰⁷

19  For³⁵⁸⁸ I was afraid³⁰²⁵ of^{4480 6440} the anger⁶³⁹ and hot displeasure,²⁵³⁴ wherewith⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ was wroth⁷¹⁰⁷ against⁵⁹²¹ you to destroy⁸⁰⁴⁵ you. But the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ hearkened⁸⁰⁸⁵ unto⁴¹³ me at that¹⁹³¹ time⁶⁴⁷¹ also.¹⁵⁷¹

20  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ was very angry^{599 3966} with Aaron¹⁷⁵ to have destroyed⁸⁰⁴⁵ him: and I prayed⁶⁴¹⁹ for¹¹⁵⁷ Aaron¹⁷⁵ also¹⁵⁷¹ the same¹⁹³¹ time.⁶²⁵⁶

21  And I took³⁹⁴⁷ your sin,^{2403 853} the calf⁵⁶⁹⁵ which⁸³⁴ ye had made,⁶²¹³ and burnt⁸³¹³ it with fire,⁷⁸⁴ and stamped³⁸⁰⁷ it, and ground²⁹¹² it very small,³¹⁹⁰ even until⁵⁷⁰⁴ it⁸³⁴ was as small¹⁸⁵⁴ as dust:⁶⁰⁸³ and I cast^{7993 853} the dust⁶⁰⁸³ thereof into⁴¹³ the brook⁵¹⁵⁸ that descended³³⁸¹ out of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the mount.²⁰²²

22  And at Taberah,⁸⁴⁰⁴ and at Massah,⁴⁵³² and at Kibroth-hattaavah,⁶⁹¹⁴ ye provoked^{7107 853} the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ to wrath.

23  Likewise when the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ sent⁷⁹⁷¹ you from Kadesh-barnea,^{4480 6947} saying,⁵⁵⁹ Go up⁵⁹²⁷ and possess^{3423 853} the land⁷⁷⁶ which⁸³⁴ I have given⁵⁴¹⁴ you; then ye rebelled against^{4784 853} the commandment⁶³¹⁰ of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ your God,⁴³⁰ and ye believed⁵³⁹ him not,³⁸⁰⁸ nor³⁸⁰⁸ hearkened⁸⁰⁸⁵ to his voice.⁶⁹⁶³

24  Ye have been¹⁹⁶¹ rebellious⁴⁷⁸⁴ against⁵⁹⁷³ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ from the day^{4480 3117} that I knew³⁰⁴⁵ you.

25  Thus I fell down⁵³⁰⁷ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the LORD^{3068 853} forty⁷⁰⁵ days³¹¹⁷ and forty⁷⁰⁵ nights,³⁹¹⁵ as⁸³⁴ I fell down⁵³⁰⁷ at the first; because³⁵⁸⁸ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ had said⁵⁵⁹ he would destroy⁸⁰⁴⁵ you.

26  I prayed⁶⁴¹⁹ therefore unto⁴¹³ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ and said,⁵⁵⁹ O Lord¹³⁶ GOD,³⁰⁶⁹ destroy⁷⁸⁴³ not⁴⁰⁸ thy people⁵⁹⁷¹ and thine inheritance,⁵¹⁵⁹ which⁸³⁴ thou hast redeemed⁶²⁹⁹ through thy greatness,¹⁴³³ which⁸³⁴ thou hast brought forth³³¹⁸ out of Egypt^{4480 4714} with a mighty²³⁸⁹ hand.³⁰²⁷

27  Remember²¹⁴² thy servants,⁵⁶⁵⁰ Abraham,⁸⁵ Isaac,³³²⁷ and Jacob;³²⁹⁰ look⁶⁴³⁷ not⁴⁰⁸ unto⁴¹³ the stubbornness⁷¹⁹⁰ of this²⁰⁸⁸ people,⁵⁹⁷¹ nor to⁴¹³ their wickedness,⁷⁵⁶² nor to⁴¹³ their sin:²⁴⁰³

28  Lest⁶⁴³⁵ the land⁷⁷⁶ whence^{834 4480 8034} thou broughtest us out³³¹⁸ say,⁵⁵⁹ Because the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ was not able^{4480 1097 3201} to bring⁹³⁵ them into⁴¹³ the land⁷⁷⁶ which⁸³⁴ he promised¹⁶⁹⁶ them, and because he hated^{4480 8135} them, he hath brought them out³³¹⁸ to slay⁴¹⁹¹ them in the wilderness.⁴⁰⁵⁷

29  Yet they¹⁹⁹² are thy people⁵⁹⁷¹ and thine inheritance,⁵¹⁵⁹ which⁸³⁴ thou broughtest out³³¹⁸ by thy mighty¹⁴¹⁹ power³⁵⁸¹ and by thy stretched out⁵¹⁸⁶ arm.²²²⁰

1 ἄκουε Ισραηλ σὺ διαβαίνεις σήμερον τὸν Ιορδάνην εἰσελθεῖν κληρονομῆσαι ἔθνη μεγάλα καὶ ἰσχυρότερα μᾶλλον ἢ ὑμεῖς πόλεις μεγάλας καὶ τειχήρεις ἕως τοῦ οὐρανοῦ

2 λαὸν μέγαν καὶ πολὺν καὶ εὐμήκη υἱοὺς Ενακ οὓς σὺ οἶσθα καὶ σὺ ἀκήκοας τίς ἀντιστήσεται κατὰ πρόσωπον υἱῶν Ενακ

3 καὶ γνώσῃ σήμερον ὅτι κύριος ὁ θεός σου οὗτος προπορεύεται πρὸ προσώπου σου πῦρ καταναλίσκον ἐστίν οὗτος ἐξολεθρεύσει αὐτούς καὶ οὗτος ἀποστρέψει αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου σου καὶ ἀπολεῖς αὐτούς καθάπερ εἶπέν σοι κύριος

4 μὴ εἴπῃς ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου ἐν τῷ ἐξαναλῶσαι κύριον τὸν θεόν σου τὰ ἔθνη ταῦτα ἀπὸ προσώπου σου λέγων διὰ τὰς δικαιοσύνας μου εἰσήγαγέν με κύριος κληρονομῆσαι τὴν γῆν τὴν ἀγαθὴν ταύτην ἀλλὰ διὰ τὴν ἀσέβειαν τῶν ἐθνῶν τούτων κύριος ἐξολεθρεύσει αὐτοὺς πρὸ προσώπου σου

5 οὐχὶ διὰ τὴν δικαιοσύνην σου οὐδὲ διὰ τὴν ὁσιότητα τῆς καρδίας σου σὺ εἰσπορεύῃ κληρονομῆσαι τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν ἀλλὰ διὰ τὴν ἀσέβειαν τῶν ἐθνῶν τούτων κύριος ἐξολεθρεύσει αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου σου καὶ ἵνα στήσῃ τὴν διαθήκην αὐτοῦ ἣν ὤμοσεν τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν τῷ Αβρααμ καὶ τῷ Ισαακ καὶ τῷ Ιακωβ

6 καὶ γνώσῃ σήμερον ὅτι οὐχὶ διὰ τὰς δικαιοσύνας σου κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοι τὴν γῆν τὴν ἀγαθὴν ταύτην κληρονομῆσαι ὅτι λαὸς σκληροτράχηλος εἶ

7 μνήσθητι μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ ὅσα παρώξυνας κύριον τὸν θεόν σου ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἀφ᾽ ἧς ἡμέρας ἐξήλθετε ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἕως ἤλθετε εἰς τὸν τόπον τοῦτον ἀπειθοῦντες διετελεῖτε τὰ πρὸς κύριον

8 καὶ ἐν Χωρηβ παρωξύνατε κύριον καὶ ἐθυμώθη κύριος ἐφ᾽ ὑμῖν ἐξολεθρεῦσαι ὑμᾶς

9 ἀναβαίνοντός μου εἰς τὸ ὄρος λαβεῖν τὰς πλάκας τὰς λιθίνας πλάκας διαθήκης ἃς διέθετο κύριος πρὸς ὑμᾶς καὶ κατεγινόμην ἐν τῷ ὄρει τεσσαράκοντα ἡμέρας καὶ τεσσαράκοντα νύκτας ἄρτον οὐκ ἔφαγον καὶ ὕδωρ οὐκ ἔπιον

10 καὶ ἔδωκεν κύριος ἐμοὶ τὰς δύο πλάκας τὰς λιθίνας γεγραμμένας ἐν τῷ δακτύλῳ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐπ᾽ αὐταῖς ἐγέγραπτο πάντες οἱ λόγοι οὓς ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν τῷ ὄρει ἡμέρᾳ ἐκκλησίας

11 καὶ ἐγένετο διὰ τεσσαράκοντα ἡμερῶν καὶ τεσσαράκοντα νυκτῶν ἔδωκεν κύριος ἐμοὶ τὰς δύο πλάκας τὰς λιθίνας πλάκας διαθήκης

12 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρός με ἀνάστηθι κατάβηθι τὸ τάχος ἐντεῦθεν ὅτι ἠνόμησεν ὁ λαός σου οὓς ἐξήγαγες ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου παρέβησαν ταχὺ ἐκ τῆς ὁδοῦ ἧς ἐνετείλω αὐτοῖς ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς χώνευμα

13 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρός με λελάληκα πρὸς σὲ ἅπαξ καὶ δὶς λέγων ἑώρακα τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον καὶ ἰδοὺ λαὸς σκληροτράχηλός ἐστιν

14 ἔασόν με ἐξολεθρεῦσαι αὐτούς καὶ ἐξαλείψω τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῶν ὑποκάτωθεν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ποιήσω σὲ εἰς ἔθνος μέγα καὶ ἰσχυρὸν καὶ πολὺ μᾶλλον ἢ τοῦτο

15 καὶ ἐπιστρέψας κατέβην ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους καὶ τὸ ὄρος ἐκαίετο πυρί καὶ αἱ δύο πλάκες ἐπὶ ταῖς δυσὶ χερσίν μου

16 καὶ ἰδὼν ὅτι ἡμάρτετε ἐναντίον κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν καὶ ἐποιήσατε ὑμῖν ἑαυτοῖς χωνευτὸν καὶ παρέβητε ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ ἧς ἐνετείλατο ὑμῖν κύριος

17 καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενος τῶν δύο πλακῶν ἔρριψα αὐτὰς ἀπὸ τῶν δύο χειρῶν μου καὶ συνέτριψα ἐναντίον ὑμῶν

18 καὶ ἐδεήθην ἐναντίον κυρίου δεύτερον καθάπερ καὶ τὸ πρότερον τεσσαράκοντα ἡμέρας καὶ τεσσαράκοντα νύκτας ἄρτον οὐκ ἔφαγον καὶ ὕδωρ οὐκ ἔπιον περὶ πασῶν τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ὑμῶν ὧν ἡμάρτετε ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν παροξῦναι αὐτόν

19 καὶ ἔκφοβός εἰμι διὰ τὴν ὀργὴν καὶ τὸν θυμόν ὅτι παρωξύνθη κύριος ἐφ᾽ ὑμῖν ἐξολεθρεῦσαι ὑμᾶς καὶ εἰσήκουσεν κύριος ἐμοῦ καὶ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τούτῳ

20 καὶ ἐπὶ Ααρων ἐθυμώθη κύριος σφόδρα ἐξολεθρεῦσαι αὐτόν καὶ ηὐξάμην καὶ περὶ Ααρων ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ

21 καὶ τὴν ἁμαρτίαν ὑμῶν ἣν ἐποιήσατε τὸν μόσχον ἔλαβον αὐτὸν καὶ κατέκαυσα αὐτὸν ἐν πυρὶ καὶ συνέκοψα αὐτὸν καταλέσας σφόδρα ἕως οὗ ἐγένετο λεπτόν καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡσεὶ κονιορτός καὶ ἔρριψα τὸν κονιορτὸν εἰς τὸν χειμάρρουν τὸν καταβαίνοντα ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους

22 καὶ ἐν τῷ Ἐμπυρισμῷ καὶ ἐν τῷ Πειρασμῷ καὶ ἐν τοῖς Μνήμασιν τῆς ἐπιθυμίας παροξύνοντες ἦτε κύριον τὸν θεὸν ὑμῶν

23 καὶ ὅτε ἐξαπέστειλεν κύριος ὑμᾶς ἐκ Καδης Βαρνη λέγων ἀνάβητε καὶ κληρονομήσατε τὴν γῆν ἣν δίδωμι ὑμῖν καὶ ἠπειθήσατε τῷ ῥήματι κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν καὶ οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῷ καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσατε τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ

24 ἀπειθοῦντες ἦτε τὰ πρὸς κύριον ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας ἧς ἐγνώσθη ὑμῖν

25 καὶ ἐδεήθην ἐναντίον κυρίου τεσσαράκοντα ἡμέρας καὶ τεσσαράκοντα νύκτας ὅσας ἐδεήθην εἶπεν γὰρ κύριος ἐξολεθρεῦσαι ὑμᾶς

27 μνήσθητι Αβρααμ καὶ Ισαακ καὶ Ιακωβ τῶν θεραπόντων σου οἷς ὤμοσας κατὰ σεαυτοῦ μὴ ἐπιβλέψῃς ἐπὶ τὴν σκληρότητα τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου καὶ τὰ ἀσεβήματα καὶ τὰ ἁμαρτήματα αὐτῶν

28 μὴ εἴπωσιν οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν γῆν ὅθεν ἐξήγαγες ἡμᾶς ἐκεῖθεν λέγοντες παρὰ τὸ μὴ δύνασθαι κύριον εἰσαγαγεῖν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς καὶ παρὰ τὸ μισῆσαι αὐτοὺς ἐξήγαγεν αὐτοὺς ἀποκτεῖναι ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ

29 καὶ οὗτοι λαός σου καὶ κλῆρός σου οὓς ἐξήγαγες ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου ἐν τῇ ἰσχύι σου τῇ μεγάλῃ καὶ ἐν τῷ βραχίονί σου τῷ ὑψηλῷ

‎1 ‏שְׁמַ֣ע יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אַתָּ֨ה עֹבֵ֤ר הַיּוֹם֙ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן לָבֹא֙ לָרֶ֣שֶׁת גּוֹיִ֔ם גְּדֹלִ֥ים וַעֲצֻמִ֖ים מִמֶּ֑ךָּ עָרִ֛ים גְּדֹלֹ֥ת וּבְצֻרֹ֖ת בַּשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

‎2 ‏עַֽם־גָּד֥וֹל וָרָ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י עֲנָקִ֑ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר אַתָּ֤ה יָדַ֙עְתָּ֙ וְאַתָּ֣ה שָׁמַ֔עְתָּ מִ֣י יִתְיַצֵּ֔ב לִפְנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י עֲנָֽק׃

‎3 ‏וְיָדַעְתָּ֣ הַיּ֗וֹם כִּי֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ הֽוּא־הָעֹבֵ֤ר לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙ אֵ֣שׁ אֹֽכְלָ֔ה ה֧וּא יַשְׁמִידֵ֛ם וְה֥וּא יַכְנִיעֵ֖ם לְפָנֶ֑יךָ וְהֽוֹרַשְׁתָּ֤ם וְהַֽאַבַדְתָּם֙¹ מַהֵ֔ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה לָֽךְ׃

‎4 ‏אַל־תֹּאמַ֣ר בִּלְבָבְךָ֗ בַּהֲדֹ֣ף יְהוָה֩ אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ אֹתָ֥ם׀ מִלְּפָנֶיךָ֮ לֵאמֹר֒ בְּצִדְקָתִי֙ הֱבִיאַ֣נִי יְהוָ֔ה לָרֶ֖שֶׁת אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את וּבְרִשְׁעַת֙ הַגּוֹיִ֣ם הָאֵ֔לֶּה יְהוָ֖ה מוֹרִישָׁ֥ם³ מִפָּנֶֽיךָ׃

‎5 ‏לֹ֣א בְצִדְקָתְךָ֗ וּבְיֹ֙שֶׁר֙ לְבָ֣בְךָ֔ אַתָּ֥ה בָ֖א לָרֶ֣שֶׁת אֶת־אַרְצָ֑ם כִּ֞י בְּרִשְׁעַ֣ת׀ הַגּוֹיִ֣ם הָאֵ֗לֶּה יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ מוֹרִישָׁ֣ם מִפָּנֶ֔יךָ וּלְמַ֜עַן הָקִ֣ים אֶת־הַדָּבָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר נִשְׁבַּ֤ע יְהוָה֙ לַאֲבֹתֶ֔יךָ לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם לְיִצְחָ֖ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹֽב׃

‎6 ‏וְיָדַעְתָּ֗ כִּ֠י לֹ֤א בְצִדְקָֽתְךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱ֠לֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵ֨ן לְךָ֜ אֶת־הָאָ֧רֶץ הַטּוֹבָ֛ה הַזֹּ֖את לְרִשְׁתָּ֑הּ כִּ֥י עַם־קְשֵׁה־עֹ֖רֶף אָֽתָּה׃

‎7 ‏זְכֹר֙ אַל־תִּשְׁכַּ֔ח אֵ֧ת אֲשֶׁר־הִקְצַ֛פְתָּ אֶת־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר לְמִן־הַיּ֞וֹם אֲשֶׁר־יָצָ֣אתָ׀ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֗יִם עַד־בֹּֽאֲכֶם֙ עַד־הַמָּק֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה מַמְרִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם עִם־יְהוָֽה׃

‎8 ‏וּבְחֹרֵ֥ב הִקְצַפְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּתְאַנַּ֧ף יְהוָ֛ה בָּכֶ֖ם לְהַשְׁמִ֥יד אֶתְכֶֽם׃

‎9 ‏בַּעֲלֹתִ֣י הָהָ֗רָה לָקַ֜חַת לוּחֹ֤ת הָֽאֲבָנִים֙ לוּחֹ֣ת הַבְּרִ֔ית אֲשֶׁר־כָּרַ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה עִמָּכֶ֑ם וָאֵשֵׁ֣ב בָּהָ֗ר אַרְבָּעִ֥ים יוֹם֙ וְאַרְבָּעִ֣ים לַ֔יְלָה לֶ֚חֶם לֹ֣א אָכַ֔לְתִּי וּמַ֖יִם לֹ֥א שָׁתִֽיתִי׃

‎10 ‏וַיִּתֵּ֨ן יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י אֶת־שְׁנֵי֙ לוּחֹ֣ת הָֽאֲבָנִ֔ים כְּתֻבִ֖ים בְּאֶצְבַּ֣ע אֱלֹהִ֑ים וַעֲלֵיהֶ֗ם כְּֽכָל־הַדְּבָרִ֡ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּר֩ יְהוָ֨ה עִמָּכֶ֥ם בָּהָ֛ר מִתּ֥וֹךְ הָאֵ֖שׁ בְּי֥וֹם הַקָּהָֽל׃

‎11 ‏וַיְהִ֗י מִקֵּץ֙ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים י֔וֹם וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים לָ֑יְלָה נָתַ֨ן יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י אֶת־שְׁנֵ֛י לֻחֹ֥ת הָאֲבָנִ֖ים לֻח֥וֹת הַבְּרִֽית׃

‎12 ‏וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י ק֣וּם רֵ֤ד מַהֵר֙ מִזֶּ֔ה כִּ֚י שִׁחֵ֣ת עַמְּךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הוֹצֵ֖אתָ מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם סָ֣רוּ מַהֵ֗ר מִן־הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוִּיתִ֔ם עָשׂ֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם מַסֵּכָֽה׃

‎13 ‏וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֣י לֵאמֹ֑ר רָאִ֙יתִי֙ אֶת־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה וְהִנֵּ֥ה עַם־קְשֵׁה־עֹ֖רֶף הֽוּא׃

‎14 ‏הֶ֤רֶף מִמֶּ֙נִּי֙ וְאַשְׁמִידֵ֔ם וְאֶמְחֶ֣ה אֶת־שְׁמָ֔ם מִתַּ֖חַת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙ אֽוֹתְךָ֔ לְגוֹי־עָצ֥וּם וָרָ֖ב מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

‎15 ‏וָאֵ֗פֶן וָֽאֵרֵד֙ מִן־הָהָ֔ר וְהָהָ֖ר בֹּעֵ֣ר בָּאֵ֑שׁ וּשְׁנֵי֙ לֻחֹ֣ת הַבְּרִ֔ית עַ֖ל שְׁתֵּ֥י יָדָֽי׃

‎16 ‏וָאֵ֗רֶא וְהִנֵּ֤ה חֲטָאתֶם֙ לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם עֲשִׂיתֶ֣ם לָכֶ֔ם עֵ֖גֶל מַסֵּכָ֑ה סַרְתֶּ֣ם מַהֵ֔ר מִן־הַדֶּ֕רֶךְ אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אֶתְכֶֽם׃

‎17 ‏וָאֶתְפֹּשׂ֙ בִּשְׁנֵ֣י הַלֻּחֹ֔ת וָֽאַשְׁלִכֵ֔ם מֵעַ֖ל שְׁתֵּ֣י יָדָ֑י וָאֲשַׁבְּרֵ֖ם לְעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃

‎18 ‏וָֽאֶתְנַפַּל֩ לִפְנֵ֨י יְהוָ֜ה כָּרִאשֹׁנָ֗ה אַרְבָּעִ֥ים יוֹם֙ וְאַרְבָּעִ֣ים לַ֔יְלָה לֶ֚חֶם לֹ֣א אָכַ֔לְתִּי וּמַ֖יִם לֹ֣א שָׁתִ֑יתִי עַ֤ל כָּל־חַטַּאתְכֶם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חֲטָאתֶ֔ם לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הָרַ֛ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לְהַכְעִיסֽוֹ׃

‎19 ‏כִּ֣י יָגֹ֗רְתִּי מִפְּנֵ֤י הָאַף֙ וְהַ֣חֵמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָצַ֧ף יְהוָ֛ה עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם לְהַשְׁמִ֣יד אֶתְכֶ֑ם וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י גַּ֖ם בַּפַּ֥עַם הַהִֽוא׃

‎20 ‏וּֽבְאַהֲרֹ֗ן הִתְאַנַּ֧ף יְהוָ֛ה מְאֹ֖ד לְהַשְׁמִיד֑וֹ וָֽאֶתְפַּלֵּ֛ל גַּם־בְּעַ֥ד אַהֲרֹ֖ן בָּעֵ֥ת הַהִֽוא׃

‎21 ‏וְֽאֶת־חַטַּאתְכֶ֞ם אֲשֶׁר־עֲשִׂיתֶ֣ם אֶת־הָעֵ֗גֶל לָקַחְתִּי֮ וָאֶשְׂרֹ֣ף אֹת֣וֹ׀ בָּאֵשׁ֒ וָאֶכֹּ֨ת אֹת֤וֹ טָחוֹן֙ הֵיטֵ֔ב עַ֥ד אֲשֶׁר־דַּ֖ק לְעָפָ֑ר וָֽאַשְׁלִךְ֙ אֶת־עֲפָר֔וֹ אֶל־הַנַּ֖חַל הַיֹּרֵ֥ד מִן־הָהָֽר׃

‎22 ‏וּבְתַבְעֵרָה֙ וּבְמַסָּ֔ה וּבְקִבְרֹ֖ת הַֽתַּאֲוָ֑ה מַקְצִפִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם אֶת־יְהוָֽה׃

‎23 ‏וּבִשְׁלֹ֨חַ יְהוָ֜ה אֶתְכֶ֗ם מִקָּדֵ֤שׁ בַּרְנֵ֙עַ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר עֲלוּ֙ וּרְשׁ֣וּ אֶת־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לָכֶ֑ם וַתַּמְר֗וּ אֶת־פִּ֤י יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹ֣הֵיכֶ֔ם וְלֹ֤א הֶֽאֱמַנְתֶּם֙ ל֔וֹ וְלֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם בְּקֹלֽוֹ׃

‎24 ‏מַמְרִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם עִם־יְהוָ֑ה מִיּ֖וֹם דַּעְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶֽם׃

‎25 ‏וָֽאֶתְנַפַּ֞ל לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה אֵ֣ת אַרְבָּעִ֥ים הַיּ֛וֹם וְאֶת־אַרְבָּעִ֥ים הַלַּ֖יְלָה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִתְנַפָּ֑לְתִּי כִּֽי־אָמַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה לְהַשְׁמִ֥יד אֶתְכֶֽם׃

‎26 ‏וָאֶתְפַּלֵּ֣ל אֶל־יְהוָה֮ וָאֹמַר֒ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה אַל־תַּשְׁחֵ֤ת עַמְּךָ֙ וְנַחֲלָ֣תְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר פָּדִ֖יתָ בְּגָדְלֶ֑ךָ אֲשֶׁר־הוֹצֵ֥אתָ מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם בְּיָ֥ד חֲזָקָֽה׃

‎27 ‏זְכֹר֙ לַעֲבָדֶ֔יךָ לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם לְיִצְחָ֖ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹ֑ב אַל־תֵּ֗פֶן אֶל־קְשִׁי֙ הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה וְאֶל־רִשְׁע֖וֹ וְאֶל־חַטָּאתֽוֹ׃

‎28 ‏פֶּן־יֹאמְר֗וּ הָאָרֶץ֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הוֹצֵאתָ֣נוּ מִשָּׁם֒ מִבְּלִי֙ יְכֹ֣לֶת יְהוָ֔ה לַהֲבִיאָ֕ם אֶל־הָאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֣ר לָהֶ֑ם וּמִשִּׂנְאָת֣וֹ אוֹתָ֔ם הוֹצִיאָ֖ם לַהֲמִתָ֥ם בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃

‎29 ‏וְהֵ֥ם עַמְּךָ֖ וְנַחֲלָתֶ֑ךָ אֲשֶׁ֤ר הוֹצֵ֙אתָ֙ בְּכֹחֲךָ֣ הַגָּדֹ֔ל וּבִֽזְרֹעֲךָ֖ הַנְּטוּיָֽה׃ פ

1 Audi, Israël: tu transgredieris hodie Jordanem, ut possideas nationes maximas et fortiores te, civitates ingentes, et ad cælum usque muratas,

2 populum magnum atque sublimem, filios Enacim, quos ipse vidisti et audisti, quibus nullus potest ex adverso resistere.

3 Scies ergo hodie quod Dominus Deus tuus ipse transibit ante te, ignis devorans atque consumens, qui conterat eos, et deleat atque disperdat ante faciem tuam velociter, sicut locutus est tibi:

4 ne dicas in corde tuo, cum deleverit eos Dominus Deus tuus in conspectu tuo: Propter justitiam meam introduxit me Dominus ut terram hanc possiderem, cum propter impietates suas istæ deletæ sint nationes.

5 Neque enim propter justitias tuas, et æquitatem cordis tui ingredieris, ut possideas terras earum: sed quia illæ egerunt impie, introëunte te deletæ sunt: et ut compleret verbum suum Dominus, quod sub juramento pollicitus est patribus tuis, Abraham, Isaac, et Jacob.

6 Scito ergo quod non propter justitias tuas Dominus Deus tuus dederit tibi terram hanc optimam in possessionem, cum durissimæ cervicis sis populus.

7 Memento, et ne obliviscaris, quomodo ad iracundiam provocaveris Dominum Deum tuum in solitudine. Ex eo die, quo egressus es ex Ægypto usque ad locum istum, semper adversum Dominum contendisti.

8 Nam et in Horeb provocasti eum, et iratus delere te voluit,

9 quando ascendi in montem, ut acciperem tabulas lapideas, tabulas pacti quod pepigit vobiscum Dominus: et perseveravi in monte quadraginta diebus ac noctibus, panem non comedens, et aquam non bibens.

10 Deditque mihi Dominus duas tabulas lapideas scriptas digito Dei, et continentes omnia verba quæ vobis locutus est in monte de medio ignis, quando concio populi congregata est.

11 Cumque transissent quadraginta dies, et totidem noctes, dedit mihi Dominus duas tabulas lapideas, tabulas fœderis,

12 dixitque mihi: Surge, et descende hinc cito: quia populus tuus, quem eduxisti de Ægypto, deseruerunt velociter viam, quam demonstrasti eis, feceruntque sibi conflatile.

13 Rursumque ait Dominus ad me: Cerno quod populus iste duræ cervicis sit:

14 dimitte me ut conteram eum, et deleam nomen ejus de sub cælo, et constituam te super gentem, quæ hac major et fortior sit.

15 Cumque de monte ardente descenderem, et duas tabulas fœderis utraque tenerem manu,

16 vidissemque vos peccasse Domino Deo vestro, et fecisse vobis vitulum conflatilem, ac deseruisse velociter viam ejus, quam vobis ostenderat:

17 projeci tabulas de manibus meis, confregique eas in conspectu vestro.

18 Et procidi ante Dominum sicut prius, quadraginta diebus et noctibus panem non comedens, et aquam non bibens, propter omnia peccata vestra quæ gessistis contra Dominum, et eum ad iracundiam provocastis:

19 timui enim indignationem et iram illius, qua adversum vos concitatus, delere vos voluit. Et exaudivit me Dominus etiam hac vice.

20 Adversum Aaron quoque vehementer iratus, voluit eum conterere, et pro illo similiter deprecatus sum.

21 Peccatum autem vestrum quod feceratis, id est, vitulum, arripiens, igne combussi, et in frusta comminuens, omninoque in pulverem redigens, projeci in torrentem, qui de monte descendit.

22 In incendio quoque, et in tentatione, et in Sepulchris concupiscentiæ provocastis Dominum:

23 et quando misit vos de Cadesbarne, dicens: Ascendite, et possidete terram, quam dedi vobis, et contempsistis imperium Domini Dei vestri, et non credidistis ei, neque vocem ejus audire voluistis:

24 sed semper fuistis rebelles a die qua nosse vos cœpi.

25 Et jacui coram Domino quadraginta diebus ac noctibus, quibus eum suppliciter deprecabar, ne deleret vos ut fuerat comminatus:

26 et orans dixi: Domine Deus, ne disperdas populum tuum, et hæreditatem tuam, quam redemisti in magnitudine tua, quos eduxisti de Ægypto in manu forti.

27 Recordare servorum tuorum Abraham, Isaac, et Jacob: ne aspicias duritiam populi hujus, et impietatem atque peccatum:

28 ne forte dicant habitatores terræ, de qua eduxisti nos: Non poterat Dominus introducere eos in terram, quam pollicitus est eis, et oderat illos: idcirco eduxit, ut interficeret eos in solitudine:

29 qui sunt populus tuus et hæreditas tua, quos eduxisti in fortitudine tua magna, et in brachio tuo extento.
